HP Scanjet 4850 Development

Hello all,

I recently got an HP Scanjet scanner from my parents as I sometimes need
to copy or scan images as a student. I have seen
that the genesys backend has experimental support for this scanner as it
is based on the same chip. I have tried the latest
snapshot and I am pleased to see that it actually sees the scanner and
does something with it. Although the statement that
it works with 2400 - 300 dpi is not entirely true. When I scan an image,
the top left part gets scanned perfectly but the rest
is black with stripes through it. You can actually see some of the image
but it is not suited for copying. Well, it is better than
nothing but here is the thing. As this scanner is pretty useless if I
have to switch between Win 7 and OpenSUSE every time
I want to scan something, I want to help you with the development of
this driver.

Well, I know nothing about scanner driver programming but I do know C++
so I understand the code of the driver. I am not
willing to donate my scanner as it does work with Win 7 and if it is
absolutely necessary I will switch to Win 7 to scan. But I
am willing to do whatever you suggest to try to solve it. You could send
me code changes to see if these would work or explain what
I must modify to correct errors.

Anyway, it is nice that there is some support for this scanner because I
am not willing to buy a specific scanner if I already
have a scanner.

SANE for Android

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone has considered compiling libsane for Android. I have previously cross-compiled other open source libraries for Android, however, given my unfamiliarity with the SANE build process and the shear size of the project I am unsure where to start. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mat Baker

PIXMA: 1 Bit B/W Lineart for pixma_mp150 and pixma_mp810 Subdrivers

Hello,

I just commited 1 bit B/W lineart for all scanners in the pixma_mp150
and pixma_mp810 subdrivers to the git tree.

Due to the fact that these ccd scanners doesn't support generic lineart,
I implemented software-lineart. The graphic frontend (Xsane) provides a
slider to set the threshold.

pixma_mp810 subdriver has been tested well with these scanners:

Canoscan 8800F
Canoscan 9000F
Canon Pixma MP810
Canon Pixma MP960

pixma_mp150 subdriver isn't tested yet. This code should run, because it
is similar to the pixma_mp810 code and I compared the diff files.

Please report other working scanners to the ML.

Cheers,
Rolf

Re: PIXMA: 1 Bit B/W Lineart for pixma_mp150 and pixma_mp810 Subdrivers

Cool. You might also want to look at the dynamic thresholding code I
added to the epjitsu backend. Stef was able to copy it to genesys as
well. Basically adds a sliding window and some hysteresis to the
threshold determination, brings out text on gray backgrounds and such.
I'd like to add it to sanei_magic someday, but don't have the time
right now.

Great, I remember, that Gernot told me, he might code these too some
day for the 9000F. So maybe you can talk about this feature with him.

A preview would be very nice too. Till now I did simply with a script:

convert "$FILE" -monochrome -quality 95 "$TARGETFILE".png

Unfortunately, the 9000F is not available here, so I cannot test.

I am in close contact with Gernot and we are our beta testers.

I'm using XSANE and there is a preview.

Lineart isn't for the 9000F only. It should run with all these scanners
from the pixma_mp150 and pixma_810 subdrivers, maybe some are buggy:
