HP 2400 Status

	Hello,

the HP2400 is no yet supported. There early elements in the genesys backend
but it won't work. In theory, the 2400 is supposed to be like the 2300, but
with a 1200 dpi max resolution instead of 600.
What is left to do is to put the exact values needed in genesys_devices.c .
These values will have to be found in usb logs of the scanner operating under
windows.
Then, you can use all HP2300 constants as a guide to find all the places
where you'll have to update the code for 2400 handling. Be aware that doing
such will use the 'old methods' for building slope tables and computing
exposure. It is worth evaluating the 'new methods' used in the gl841, since
we may swith the 2300 and MD5345 to it some time in the futur.
One problem I got with the 2300 was the way it sets the frontend. I couldn't
get it work like in the usb logs, and fall back to the working current method
which modelled after the MD5345 method.
I used usbsniff+ a bunch of awk scripts to decode them. They are appended to
the message.

Regards,
	Stef

Re: HP 2400 Status

Hello Stef,
So are you working on 2400 scanner backend development? who else are there on sane-devel also working on development of 2400 scanner?
I want to know that, is development of driver code for GL646 chipset and then development of scanners using that chipset are different things?
That mean to have backend support, first chipset support code must have included and then specific hardware info for scanner is needed to include it in driver code. is that right?
Correct me if i am wrong.
So what is exaclty remaining? whatever i understood from code and mails on this list archive is that both GL646 and HP 2400 support is still in development and half implemented only right?

Regards,
Parag.

Ok, as the avision backend also needs an update, we'll move verything
by one week:

2005-12-11 Code freeze
2005-12-18 Release

Bye,

Ok, well finally I placed the 7450 from the dusty corner onto my desk.

The only problem I could encounter (using my SVN:HEAD code of course) was,
that the calibration was optimized away entirely. And thus consecutive
flatbed scans made this scanner hang.

I commited this optimization out for now (I need to rethink for what
model I added this). Commited as revision 286, BUILD 178.

1bit, dither, gray and color work well here - in flatbed and ADF mode.

Can you retest with the svn HEAD code please? Please mail me a log with
SANE_DEBUG_AVISION=8 if there is still a problem (yes 8 instead of the
usually requested 7, since 8 logg more USB low level i/o ...).

Btw. do you use the scanner via USB or SCSI? I tested USB today.

photocopy with 300dpi wrongly scaled

Hi,

I'm using an Epson Perfection 1240U scanner and a Samsung
ML 6060 (HP compatible printer) with xsane 0.98a on OpenSuSE 10.0
and I have a problem with the photo copy function.

Using 150 dpi resolution (set on the Konfiguration/Photokopie page)
is fine (but evidently coarse).

When switching to 300 dpi there the printout is reduced to
half the original size.
Switching to 600 dpi reduces to a quarter of the original size.
The main page shows 1200*1740*8 (2MB) (for an A4 scan)
regardless of which resolution I choose.

Am I missing an option?

Thanks,
Frieder

"basic" support for C5 AVision C5 ASIC (AV600u, HP5370) added

Hi all,

after some in-depth review of Falk Rohsiepe's huge patch to the avision
backend (which includes e.g. software scaling and so on) I added the
minimal changes required to unshift the images of AVision C5 ASIC based
scanners such as the AVision AV600U or HP 5370.

The basic resolutions (75, 140, 300, 600, 1200 and probably some more in
between) do work. other odd might require software scaling that I might
add later on - we'll see. However I'll also merge the color matrix
options and other minor changes soon as well.

The code is as usual in my work in progress Subversion repository:

  http://svn.exactcode.de/sane-avision/trunk/backend/

People with a affected device _PLEASE_ give this code a try and report to
my personal mail success or issues uncovered.

Yours,

Yes.

You have to set the zoom factor (xsane main window) after you changed
the resolution in the printer setup.

Lineart emulation

On Wednesday 30 November 2005 21:12, Stéphane VOLTZ wrote:

I'll need to add something similar to the snapscan backend in the long
run, since some new scanners don't support lineart mode. It still
would be nice to have lineart for OCR etc. on those scanners.

Would it be a good idea to have a common library for the conversation
from grayscale to lineart? Is it used in any other backend?

/Oliver
