Re: psychosynth-user Digest, Vol 16, Issue 1

I was running 11.04, followed the direction to exact spec on the install instructions. It worked. I was even a terminal n00b, and figured it out. The hardest part for me was finding the program to open it, until i re read the instructions and just typed in the right command line.

Re: installing psychosynth

I'm not on 11.10 but the install works fine on 11.04. Just followed the instructions for adding the PPA and installed using Synaptic. I still can't figure out the extended delay with the sound, but as an alpha attempt I'd say its a good start.

installing this app

I've tried A LOT of variants to install Psychosynth with no luck. I
run Debian Wheezy and Ubuntu 11.10 and just reinstalled Squeeze,
there are problems with all. All info on your site is useless in my
case, please provide a distro+recipe+whatever_is_needed so that one
can install and run this app.

I don't really understand why you chose to make this app in 3d (aside
from complicating life) when the three-dimnsionality of it is, for all
practical purposes, useless. There is a 2D variant for iOS and Android
(sold by Reactable) and Psychosynth could've been the more advanced
version for desktop but hell, aside from a couple of youtube demos I
found more complains then kudos while searching the net for a
installation recipe.

Thanks

I love this program and plan on using it live. Has anyone used jasuto modular? It has a cool keyboard module
that would be awsome on psychosynth.

Hello

I tried sending a message but I think my messaging client failed. Just would like to say that I am loving psychosynth. Hope to see MIDI support and I do plan on using this live.

Can't solve my 30 sec delay

I've been installing PsychoSynth on my Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I've followed the steps listed under "Easy setup" in your webpage: (http://www.psychosynth.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Repository) and I have succeded installing the program. The problem comes when I try to fix the 30 seconds delay, I type "psynth3d -o alsa --alsa-device hw:0,0" and I get this message in the terminal:

[psynth.base.xml] ERROR: Could not open

config file for reading: /home/ferran/.psychosynth/psychosynth.xml. The application might create it later.

[gui] INFO: Loading settings.

[psynth.base.xml] ERROR: Could not open config file for reading: /home/ferran/.psychosynth/psynth3d.xml. The application might create it later.

After this, the delay still persists. I have also tried to use the jack output but I can see no positive results. I really want to know whether there is a way to solve the delay because it is really annoying and I this programme seems very interesting.

Thank you very much, I hope I can get some help :)

installing on lucid....works for me.

OK I've been watching this thread all day and couldn't resist. I geeked out and made an install of lucid really quick. Psychosynth installs for me with no problems. Perhaps operator error.

Ok, just tell me in that thread where the people had problems installing
it. I can only see one comment there regarding an issue with the PPA
which seems related to some Launchpad issue, as the debs could be
manually downloaded.

Please, again, could you try the following three commands and report
your issues? I will explain them one by one so that you know what they
do

First, add the GNU Psychosynth Team PPA to your software sources:
  $> sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnu-psychosynth-team/ppa

Second, update the list of downloadable software:
  $> sudo apt-get update

Third, ask to install 'psychosynth-gui and psychosynth-samples'. When
installing these two, all the requireded dependencies should get
automatically installed
  $> sudo apt-get install psychosynth-gui psychosynth-samples

There were suggestions in that forum asking you to install the packages
one by one and in a specific order. This is not needed if you have the
repository properly configured. Also, you probably won't never need
libpsynth-dev.

higher). If you have a staged boost library (still not installed) please specify $BOOST_ROOT in your
environment and do not give a PATH to --with-boost option. If you are sure you have boost installed, then
check your version number looking in <boost/version.hpp>. See http://randspringer.de/boost for more documentation.

You shouldn't need to compile it yourself.

Anyway, if you really want to do so, you need to first, install all the
build-dependencies as listed in the debian/control packaging from Lucid,
this is:
debhelper, autotools-dev, libboost-filesystem1.40-dev,
libboost-thread1.40-dev, libboost-test1.40-dev, libsigc++-2.0-dev,
liblo-dev, libxml2-dev, libsndfile1-dev, libsoundtouch1-dev,
libvorbis-dev, alsa-base, libjack-dev, libogre-dev, libcegui-mk2-dev,
libceguiogre-dev, libois-dev, libasound2-dev, libpcre3-dev,
libglu1-mesa-dev, libgtk2.0-dev

You will also need specifically the source version that worked in Lucid,
not the last one from the repos. You can use:
https://launchpad.net/~gnu-psychosynth-team/+archive/ppa/+files/psychosynth_0.1.5%2Bbzr20100802%7E0ppa1.tar.gz

And you can compile it with:
$> ./configure
$> make
$> sudo make install

Again, you shouldn't need to do this, just use the three commands above
to enable the PPA and install the precompiled debs.

Cheers,

Re: psychosynth on Ubuntu Lucid

Hey,

I don't know of any issue installing Psychosynth in Ubuntu Lucid.
Therefore, I'm not going to spend 1 single minute of my free time
preparing an Ubuntu Lucid virtual machine to try it. If I knew of an
issue installing Psychosynth in Ubuntu Lucid, I may spend such time, but
I don't know of it, and you didn't give me any log to really confirm it,
so it effectively is as if the error didn't exist :-)

Good luck.

Hello,

how do you install and run Psychosynth on Lucid Ubtuntu.

I have followed all your web instructions and nothing works. 10.04

This is a fresh Lucid Ubuntu with no other software on it.

Please can you check and see if YOU are able to install psychosynth and
also get it running.

When you succeed, please can you email me with the exact correct install
instructions or post them on the web page of psychosynth.

thanks

Master’s thesis and new release!

{ From: http://planet.gnu.org/psychosynth/?p=23 }

As previous posts announce, latest developments were driven by my
Master's Thesis held in the University of Granada. Last week I defended
it and now I am, officially, a software engineer The document is
written in English; it is the best description available of all the new
core refactoring and an interesting read if you want to contribute to
the project.

Download Master's thesis:
http://psychosynth.com/misc/pfc.pdf

Also, a new release was made including lastest advancements in the core
library and some small user level improvements and fixes. You can
download it here.

Changelog for Psychosynth 0.2.1
-------------------------------

* Now real-time priority is properly acquired for the audio
thread in POSIX systems whenever possible.
* New modular synthesis engine included in the framework -- not
yet used by the UI, providing:
  - Hierarchical patches. One can have a full patch inside one
node that may be later store and or loaded from the hard drive.
  - Any kind of signal can be processed now.
  - Multiple output and input ports can coexist.
  - Plug-in system is much easier to implement on top of the new
system.
* New code uses some new C++0x features implemented in new
compilers only. With this release, GNU Psychosynth requires GCC
4.6 to compile.
