generated midi file doesn't play

Hello everybody!

I'm using Lilypond 2.7.4 in Windows (I used the Mingw setup, not Cygwin). Any .ly that I process, the midi
output doesn't play. What's the problem?
I attached the original file (which I downloaded from Mutopia) and the midi file.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Replace this with
   \context Staff \relative c' {

This makes it work. I don't understand why the problem occurs, but there
should be no reason to have Voice contexts within other Voice contexts.

Thanks, added to bug CVS as shaped-noteheads-do-stem.ly.

Re: generated midi file doesn't play

If you search the mailing list archives, you will find that there have
been a number of bug reports on the MIDI output in several of the
2.7.x versions. If you don't have any particular reason to use a development
version, I recommend to use the latest stable version, 2.6.3 instead
(where MIDI output works well).

Thanks for the work-around.  Anyway, it's a bug :-)

Re: lilypond-book problem: \begin[quote]{lilypond}

I introduced a fix in CVS, for LaTeX documents.

'Can't find test.ly'

Hi

I've just installed Lilypond on my PC, running Win2000
and when I double-click on test.ly I get an error log:-

GNU LilyPond 2.6.0
warning: can't find file: `test.ly'
error: failed files: "test.ly"

The file is definitely called test.ly (no .txt) and I've tried running
setup.exe again with the same result. I accepted all the defaults when
setting up and I'm logged in with Admin privileges.

Help?

Spacing bug

The following file tries to squeeze onto one line when it clearly doesn't fit (the double barline at the end
is cut off, for a start):

\relative{
\time 3/4
  c8 d e f g a
  c, d16 d e8 f g a
  c, d e16 e f8 g a
  c, d e f16 f g8 a
  c,8. d16 e8 f g8. a16
  r8 d, e f g a
  c, d e f g r
  r d e r f g
  c, r e r g
}

I was actually creating this file to see what beaming policies lilypond uses - to me the 2nd last bar here
looks a bit odd for 3/4 (it looks like a 6/8 bar), but to be honest, I'm not sure how it would automatically
determine a better configuration.
The 6th bar isn't perhaps ideal either, I suspect most publishers would prefer not to beam the f to the g.
I assume the rule it's using is that quavers are beamed over beat (crotchet) boundaries - shorter notes are
only beamed within each beat. Probably reasonable enough for 99% of cases anyway.

Actually one other thing - why is the duration number necessary when using a dot?
I would expect to be able to type "c,. d16 e8 f g. a16" for the 5th bar here, but it doesn't work.
The documentation doesn't suggest that the duration number is required, but all the examples include it.

Re: 'Can't find test.ly'

Popular question today! I quote an answer I just sent one
minute ago:

I would rather recommend to install the non-Cygwin version
from http://lilypond.org/web/install/, unless you specifically
prefer Cygwin.
Otherwise, it's a known problem with the Cygwin version that you
have to specify a full search path to the file.
