swf howto?

Hi,

I am trying to build myself a usable mono system. I managed to compile mono
itself, and package it into a nice rpm for Mandrake.

I am trying to add winforms support, and I am having problems since there is
no simple "get this from here, compile install and get the next item from
here" manual.

I would like to be told what I need, instead of trying and findig it myself
the hard way.

TIA

Re: swf howto?

The simplest method is to use the redcarpet mono channel to pull the
packages.

Short of that you will need:
- cairo (http://www.cairographics.org/download) and it's dependencies
(listed at the website)
- libgdiplus (mono cvs)
- winelib (mono cvs)
- wine (http://www.winehq.com/site/download)

Cheers,
  Peter

no special patches are needed in wine?

Re: swf howto?

No, no special patches are needed in wine. The winelib package handles
everything.

You should read the End User License Agreement that you clicked `I
agree' when you installed the framework.

The question is answered by reading that.

RE: MS IL-Code

What happen it Microsoft decide to change the .NET patent? This affect the development and future of Mono?

Re: MS IL-Code

Any patent discussions and generic Mono discussions should be done in
mono-list <at> ximian.com. However, it has been discussed ad nausea there
already (another lengthy thread just two weeks ago, so you should probably
consult the FAQ and mail-list archives before asking about MS patents.

In general, Miguel is currently doing a patent-review of MS' patents and
whether they apply to .Net, etc. Probably doesn't make much sense to
speculate until his review is complete. Then we're not guessing in the
dark anymore.

Cheers,
  Peter

RE: MS IL-Code

What strikes me as even more interesting is the settlement that MS and Sun
have come to terms on regarding open lawsuits between the two. Apparently,
a lot of cash and technical information will exhange hands to settle things.
Which, could have two interesting affects, where Java may run even better on
windows and .NET assemblies could possibly run "natively" via Sun offical
JVM support on non-windows OS's. Ok, the second one is complete speculation
on my part. ;-)

Also, just my opinion, but if Microsoft couldn't/wouldn't stop the WINE guys
from replicating most of the Win32 API, then how or why could/would they
stop the replication of the .NET framework? MS has to walk a tight line
here because they are trying to clean up their sinister repuation of being a
"bad" industry friendly company. Starting lawsuits over the replication of
the .NET framework would be a "bad" industry move for them. If Mono really
becomes a threat at all then I think they would more likely resort to FUD
like they have in the past, where they try and make Mono sound very unstable
and unreliable for corporate america to use. MS is will see that the battle
against Open Source will not be won in the courtrooms(as SCO will soon show
us), but by the old fashioned way of making and marketing a superior
product.

I know, I know, these comments belong on mono-list <at> ximian.com, but I
couldn't help myself. :-)

Re: Re: SWF status

There is a bunch of symbolic links that need to get created when
installing winelib. Did you do a 'make install'?

Also, check if you have libgdiplus.so as well, there was a bug in the red
carpet package for libgdiplus, it didn't create that link so it couldn't
load properly. Make sure you have the following files (and symbolic
links):

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           24 Mar 23 14:21 libgdiplus.so ->
/usr/lib/libgdiplus.so.0
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           19 Mar 19 14:19 libgdiplus.so.0 ->
libgdiplus.so.0.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 84496 Mar 18 18:32
libgdiplus.so.0.0.0

Cheers,
  Peter
