Remote syncronisation/Storage Mechanisms

Hey,

I have been using Tomboy for a few months now, and...wow ;), I have started
to get friends and family addicted too!

So, Now that I have used it for a while, i want to improve it. I really
would like to see remote syncronisation as a plugin, or a core feature. I
saw that it was briefly discussed in July by Adam Isreal
http://beatniksoftware.com/pipermail/tomboy-list_beatniksoftware.com/2005-July/000860.html

I am new to mono, and have literally only done a helloworld example, but am
pretty confident that I could tap something out.

After looking at some of the existing plugins, and chatter about remote
storage, it seems to be feasible to produce something that would be able to
do it. So I have a few questions/thoughts as I plod along:

Introducing remote storage means that a set of worries emerges:
What do we do about dirty notes (although tomboy already worries about this)
Merging note changes (remote notes and local note cache differs)
Unavailability of remote storage.

The best idea is to keep a local cache of your notes, so that when your
server/alternate storage is not available, then you can still plod on and
not be interrupted, and when you do have access to your service, then you
can hit sync. This is accomplised simply by doing nothing, since Tomboy
should still rely chiefly on it's local notes, and a remote sync manager is
responsible for ensuring that when tomboy wants to open, save, or delete a note
then the manager gets on with it. We should note that Remote does not
necessarily only mean the internet, but could mean a palm pilot, an ipod, or

Renaming "Start Here" and keybinds

Hi,

I'm just new to Tomboy, but I really loved it for its simple interface
(and it's fast ;-) ).

But I realized that whenever a I change the "Start here" title (at least
in brazilian portuguese, where it is "Comece aqui"), I lose the keybind
for that note. Since I don't like the "Start here" title, and I'd really
enjoy to call it something as "To do" and keep the keybinding, I decided
to ask if someone has already thought of that.

I don't know the code (and I just know the basics of C, anyway), but it
seems that it would not be so hard to set a default note in the
preferences, and then the binding to start_here could be directed to
the default one.

Besides, when I keep the "Start here" title, in the tomboy menu I get
two copies of "Start here": one with and other without the "(key)",
where key is the one in the binding. Don't know if that's a bug, but it
does not seem too reasonable....

Thanks a lot (for the help and the cool program ;-) )

confirming Bug 305036

Hi,

I've been running tomboy for quite some time, but over the last months, I
have started experiencing some strange issues with tomboy, which are
equivalent to those documented by Luis Villa in Bug #305036

If I create a link to a new note in an existing note (ExistingNote), it
sometimes (almost always) creates 2 notes. One is the expected note with
the title of the link (NewTestNote), and the other is a new note with the
entire content of ExistingNote as both title and content. Unfortunately
this turns ExistingNote unusable, because it's entire content is now a
link to this new note, and of course deleting this new note doesn't
change the fact that as soon as i click anywhere in ExistingNote, it acts
as a very large link.

I then have to copy/past the entire contents of ExistingNote into a text
editor, delete the note, and re-copy the content back into the note, to
get rid of formatting.

I've tried removing all links from all files in ~/.tomboy/ but that
doesn't seem to get rid of the problem.

Any ideas?

All help is appreciated.

cheers

Please update to Tomboy 0.3.3 or to CVS, and let me know if this problem
still occurs. Thanks!

Is there any Tomboy ported to Win32?

Hi all,

Tomboy is great! Thanks Alex.

I use Tomboy when I am on my debian. Unfortunately, sometime I have to
work on Windows XP (as working environment dictates) - and this is where
I miss Tomboy. Is there any Tomboy ported on Win32?

There was an initiative to port Tomboy to Win32[1], but I have no idea
how far it's come.

OK,

I upgraded today, and at first glance it seems the problem has gone away.
I'll update the bug report, and report back if anything changes.

Sorry for the trouble. I should have upgraded before reporting in here,
but i am a cautious type, and like to keep my laptop as close to ubuntu
with packages as i can.

I have a follow-up question though: Since upgrading I can no longer get
tomboy in my panel, but only as a notification icon. I much prefer the
gnome panel style, as it ensures that the icon is always in the exact same
location. Any tips?

cheers and thanks for the quick response.

OK, I got this one as well. sorry to be such a slow one.

here's the brief overview of what i did to get the panel applet back after
installing 0.3.3 from source:

$ sudo bonobo-activation-sysconf
--add-directory=/usr/local/lib/bonobo/servers/

$ killall bonobo-activation-server; killall gnome-panel

cheers and thanks again for a great product

Re: tomboy-list Digest, Vol 14, Issue 3

I, too would like to know if there is anyone who could provide a status for TomBoy on Win32. I have looked, but
have had little luck finding any information. If anyone has updated information, I would love to hear it.

Thanks,

Re: Is there any Tomboy ported to Win32?

Hello Dmitry.

I've posted your email to me back to the Tomboy list. I'm a Linux user
mainly so a Windows port wouldn't be of much use to me. But there may be
interested people on the Tomboy list that might want to use it and help
you fix things.

Hope you don't mind.
