Tomboy on Ubuntu/debian

This peace of software is mind boggling. It's way better than Palm.
Having said that, it does crash quite often on my Ubuntu -- 4 times so
far today. It doesn't matter though, since it saves all my data.

My biggest concern is, how do I back this up? And, more importantly,
how do I share my notes with my laptop -- which also has ubuntu? If
anyone is thinking about more entrepreneurial ideas: how about
offering a sync with a Web service?

Mono.Posix deprecated, dies when compiling with latest Mono

I attempted to fix the offending code, but after much work,
panelapplet/AppletFactory.cs complains, and I can't deal with that crazy
wrapper stuff atm, as I'm running a migraine.

panelapplet/AppletFactory.cs(22) error CS0122: 'GLib.Object.LookupGType'
is inaccessible due to its protection level
/usr/local/lib/mono/gtk-sharp/glib-sharp.dll:
'GLib.Object.LookupGType' (name of symbol related to previous error
panelapplet/AppletFactory.cs(22) error CS0122: 'GLib.Object.LookupGType'
is inaccessible due to its protection level
/usr/local/lib/mono/gtk-sharp/glib-sharp.dll:

Just thought I'd see if anyone has already fixed this.

Re: Tomboy on Ubuntu/debian

Ya, so it's probably crashing because of the GtkSpell dependency. Try
disabling spell-checking in the preferences, and please report back if
you notice a difference.

All notes are stored as XML in ~/.tomboy, so you can back them up
however you want (or even better, write a plugin to provide some nice UI
for it).

Regarding Note sharing, many have suggested this. I don't have the time
to work on it unfortunately.

Links get jumbled up

This might be a bug. Yesterday, I created a link for the word Emailed
which tracks information on some of the important emails I send during
the day (I have to key it in). And then I created links of name of the
people that I correspon with: so say John Smith or Ubuntu Forum.

Here's the problem: If I type Emailed John Smith, it automatically
creates one link called Emailed John Smith instead of two seperate
links i.e. Emailed and John Smith.

Found solution to the problem

You may ignore the previous email, but I think I found the reason for
this behavior. It's complex but will try and explain it as easily as I
can:

I had a space after the Emailed link (so emailed followed by a space).
So, if I typed Emailed followed by one space and John Smith (which was
also a link), it made it into one link instead of two. So now, I have
to leave two spaces after emailed.

That is a bug. Please file it in bugzilla.gnome.org, so I don't lose
track of it.

Thanks,

Perhaps if someone wanted to write a Deleted Note Retrieval plugin, that
could be very cool and handy. Probably quite a simple job, but would
really simplify finding the note required.

Just a thought :)

ANNOUNCE: Tomboy 0.3.3

Hey Ya'll,

Tomboy is a simple note-taking application designed to be unobtrusive
and friendly, while supporting inter-note links similar to a WikiWikiWeb
to help you organize your notes and ideas. It can run either as a Gnome
panel applet or a notifiication tray-icon.

Visit the Tomboy website at http://www.beatniksoftware.com/tomboy for
downloads, screenshots, and more information.

This newest release (0.3.3) has lots of great new features and bugfixes,
including:

	* Support for building under Mono 1.1.8.
	* New HTML export plugin.
	* New plugin menu in toolbar.
	* Rewritten print plugin, based on GEdit codebase.
	* Support user and system plugin directories.
	* Added keybinding to close all open notes (Ctrl-Q).
	* Support global keys with scroll/num/caps lock.
	* Correctly namespaced note XML content.

This is a maintence and feature release, and the first release of any
kind in some time, due to free-time constraints on its author. So now
is the time to get involved and lead the project wherever you think it
should go!

Thanks & Enjoy,
-Alex

WOOOHOO, maybe I'll be able to get tomboy onto my ubuntu amd64 machine.

To put it simply, I feel like I'm using a disabled computer when I can't
use tomboy.

I appreciate all the work everyone has done on tomboy. Thanks Alex!
