volume keys switching Nautilus theme

After last apt-get update I got this confusing behavior of keyboard shortcuts:

Keys defined for volume up, volume down and mute do not
control respective sound properties, but panel and Nautilus start
changing theme to some simple Default theme, Nautilus icons are
lost, then after some moments theme gets back and also proper icons
are restored. I just look like multimedia keys behave as a kind of theme
switching keys.

Any tips or hints what could went wrong? Should I report Debian bug
or report upstream?

Nautilus version (Debian/unstable):

  $ dpkg -l | grep nautilus
ii libnautilus2-2 2.6.3b-3 libraries for nautilus components - runtime
ii nautilus 2.6.3b-3 file manager and graphical shell for GNOME
ii nautilus-cd-bu 2.6.1-4 CD Burning front-end for Nautilus
ii nautilus-data 2.6.3b-3 data files for nautilus
ii nautilus-media 0.8.0-3 Multimedia goodies for Nautilus

P.S.: May capplets version is important, too? I got 1:2.6.1-12 here.

Here's a patch which only removes it from the desktop context menu.
It's also attached in bugzilla. Is it good practice to send it both to
the mailing list and put it in bugzilla? Or should I do it differently

gnome-file-types-properties confusion

I got Gnome 2.6 (Debian/unstable) here and I'm trying to convince Nautilus
to open iso-8859-2 encoded text file (suffix is .srt) with gedit:

0) Nautilus shows 'green foot' common icon for bridge_too_far-cz.srt file
1) I right-click file -> Open with -> Application (the only choice)
2) dialogue "none application associated with "bridge_too_far-cz.srt" is shown,
   button 'Cancel' and 'Associate'
3) I press 'Associate', gnome-file-types-properties is run (according to ps command,
   it is 'gnome-file-types-properties application/octet-stream bridge_too_far-cz.srt'),
I'm selecting icon, description, MIME type, category, suffixes in in 'Implcit action'
   field 'gedit'.
4) again - still the indefinite 'green-foot' icon is shown, right-clicking file ->
Open with -> Application gets me back to step 2), but now form in
gnome-file-types-properties contains previously entered values. Frustration, confusion
   - is it a bug or feature? What should I try next?

I'd gladly appreciate link to some explanation or tutorial I could have missed. Also
thanks for any tips or insightful explanations. I take care of multiple Gnome computers
and I just have to explain people why this doesn't work :-(

It sounds like the gnome-settings-daemon crashes when you press the
keys. File a bug against the control-center.

This is unfortunately a know bug in Gnome 2.6. When assigning a new app
to the unknown type file we create a new mimetype for it
(application/x-ext-srt). However the mimetype is created using the old
mimetype system, so Nautilus, using the new system doesn't understand
it, and can't use the new mime->app mapping.

This will be fixed in gnome 2.8, which fully moves to the new mime
system.

It depends on the module. For nautilus, both is good. See the HACKING
file for more details.

The patch looks good. I added a BLOCKED_BY_FREEZE keyword to the bug so
we won't forget it (at least its less likely) the next cycle.

You are spot on. Its pid changes quite a lot. Does it leave any logs somewhere?
I can't find anything at all in .xsession-errors or /var/log/*. I'll file the bug.

You're describing gnome 2.8.

Disabled image collection view

Hello,

Is there a way to disable the image collection view ?

I don't know if somebody had the same problem but nautilus swich by
itself to the image collection view in directory with image (even with
only one image in the directory and a lot of other kind of files) and
sometimes display nothing else than a empty canvas window.

thank you.
