GstOpenMAX kicked off! GstOpenMAX [1] is a collaboration among Fluendo [2], Nokia [3], STMicroelectronics [4], TI [5] and the open-source community, initiated by Nokia with the goal to develop a GStreamer [6] plug-in to run OpenMAX IL [7] components in GNOME [8] and GStreamer applications. The new project aims to merge efforts from Bellagio project [9] and GOmx project [10] into one solid OpenMAS IL plug-in for GStreamer. OpenMAX IL is an industry standard that provides abstractions for multimedia processing implemented in hardware or software. Especially in embedded systems, there has been a strong need for a cross-platform API that improves the integration of multiple hardware-accelerated multimedia components, e.g. codecs, effects and mixers. The GstOpenMAX plug-in enables GNOME and GStreamer applications to seamlessly use OpenMAX IL components. In addition, the project also provides the community with the possibility to develop cross-platform codecs, that would automatically be supported by GStreamer multimedia framework.
