Announcement of Schrodinger Project

BBC and Fluendo are working on a new implementation of the Dirac codec.
The goal of this new implementation is to focus on speed and
maintainability.

Two libraries will be developed in ANSI C, one for decoding of the Dirac
video codec and for for encoding.

You can find out more about the project here:
http://schrodinger.sourceforge.net

As part of this project we will also make sure the Dirac video codec can
be contained in the Ogg container format and work with Xiph.org to
ensure that this mapping is acceptable to the Xiph community.

The code is not yet in a working state, but interested people are
suggested to join the mailing list or check out development as it
proceeds in our Subversion repository.

Working with BBC and Fluendo on this project is David Schleef, who is
also the primary author of the liboil optimization library.

This message is meant as a notice for interested parties, a more formal
announcement will be made once the project is further along.

gnome-media branched

gnome-media was branched for 2.12 (I think Ronald did this recently but
it looks like no mail was sent out to announce it).

All bug fixes for 2.12 releases should go on the gnome-2-12 branch.
HEAD will now start merging patches for UI changes and GStreamer 0.10
integration.

Thanks for the notice.

However, it seems there are serious problems with the gnome-2-12
branch of gnome-media... All files appear not to have been tagged. On
a checkout of gnome-media gnome-2-12 branch, several files are
missing, including both source files and po files.
Perhaps the tagging process was accidentally aborted somehow?

I have no idea what happened there. I redid the branch command, did a
fresh checkout, and built it, and now things seem fine.

Can you confirm it works now ?

Thanks for spotting,
Thomas

GNOME media 2.13.5 released

Hi all,

GNOME media 2.13.5 is released and available for y'all on GNOME FTP and
its mirrors. Beware! This software is heavily unstable and changes every
day.

So, seriously, it fixes a couple of minor bugs (see NEWS) and adds
experimental support for GStreamer 0.10 for those daredevils. To enable
it, please follow the steps mentioned in the README, you run a script
that changes some build files and then re-run ./autogen.sh.

Enjoy,
Ronald

Release notes for GStreamer 0.10.2 "If man is five"

Release notes for GStreamer 0.10.2 "If man is five"

The GStreamer team is proud to announce a new release in the 0.10.x
stable series of the core of the GStreamer streaming media framework.

The 0.10.x series is a stable series targeted at end users. It is not
API or ABI compatible with the stable 0.8.x series. It is, however,
parallel installable with the 0.8.x series.

The 0.10.x series has been reworked for threadsafety. It also features
various feature additions and enchancements.

This module, gstreamer, only contains core functionality. For actual
media playback, you will need other modules.

gst-plugins-base
        contains a basic set of well-supported plug-ins
gst-plugins-good
contains a set of well-supported plug-ins under our preferred
        license
gst-plugins-ugly
contains a set of well-supported plug-ins, but might pose
        problems for distributors
gst-plugins-bad
contains a set of less supported plug-ins that haven't passed
the rigorous quality testing we expect

Features of this release
      * Parallel installability with 0.8.x series
      * Threadsafe design and API
