marketing meeting on Tuesday?

I've lost track, are we going to do a marketing meeting this Tuesday?  I will have issues because I will be in SFO, but I will do my best to attend.

Finishing off the annual report

Hi!
As previously promised, here is the in-progress version of the Annual
Report 2012 based on Daniels work.

https://github.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-marketing/blob/master/annual-report/GAR2012.pdf?raw=true

There are still some rough spots here and there, but it's getting there.
Now I need help from everyone on this list with the two following items:
* Photos: A lot of places have "Needs photo" on a blank page. These
photos can be attached to a nearby article or just a random good GNOME
photo.
* Hunting down errors: Pretty darn sure I managed to slip some errors in
there. Help me find these!

Fwd: [Ubuntu-us-ohio] Multiple Versions Have Gone End-of-Life Today

This is a good reminder - how many people are still out there running GNOME 2.x which is now for the first time completely unsupported? Ubuntu 8.04 and/or 10.04 - I suspect the (unfortuante) answer is a LOT.

Emily

Subject: Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Desktop End of Life reached on May 9, 2013

This is a follow-up to the End of Life warning sent last month to
confirm that as of today (May 9, 2013), Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop is no
longer supported.  This announcement is for the desktop product only,
Ubuntu 10.04 Server is still supported for another two years.

The original End of Life warning follows, with upgrade instructions:

Ubuntu announced its 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) release almost 3 years ago,
on April 29, 2010.  As with the earlier LTS releases, Ubuntu committed
to ongoing security and critical fixes for a period of 3 years on the
desktop. The support period is now nearing its end and Ubuntu 10.04
Desktop will reach end of life on Thursday, May 9th.  At that time,
Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information or updated
packages for Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop.  Ubuntu 10.04 Server continues to
be supported for another 2 years.

The supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 10.04 is via Ubuntu 12.04.
Instructions and caveats for the upgrade may be found at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PreciseUpgrades.  Ubuntu 12.04
continues to be actively supported with security updates and
select high-impact bug fixes. All announcements of official security
updates for Ubuntu releases are sent to the ubuntu-security-announce
mailing list, information about which may be found at
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-security-announce.

Since its launch in October 2004 Ubuntu has become one of the most
highly regarded Linux distributions with millions of users in homes,
schools, businesses and governments around the world. Ubuntu is Open
Source software, costs nothing to download, and users are free to
customise or alter their software in order to meet their needs.

Changes to the gnome.org navigation menu

Hi!
I've recently made a few changes to gnome.org.
The foundation part of the website was previously buried down a bit in
our navigation structure. In addition to this it also had a lack of good
sub-navigation for the foundation pages themselves.
With the help of Saumya Dwivedi (in cc), this is now fixed.
We added "Foundation" as a top level item, making it one more top level
item. One too many perhaps.
I'm eager to kill off Applications, because that is just a static list
of 3rd party applications (many who are still using GTK2). When I first
created that page, I had a vision of a rotating set of apps showing the
ecosystem (with a fuzzy criteria on what would get there), but I'm less
convicted now and would like to try and focus the site on Core GNOME.
With this in mind I think that page should get removed.
What do you think?

News Story Ideas

Hi all,

During the last marketing meeting I said that I'd mail the list with
some ideas for news stories to be written over the summer. This is it.
:)

 * GTK Hackfest - we just had it; it would be great to have a summary
for gnome.org
 * A 3.8 retrospective - once 3.8 hits the distros it would be great
to have another round of marketing around the new release. This could
be a re-hash of the existing marketing materials, and it could include
comments or interviews with people who are using 3.8 (ideally saying
what they like about it).
 * A "looking forward to 3.10" piece - the feature proposals are in
and give an idea about what we'll be releasing in October. It might be
nice to have a post about that.

In addition to these, we have lots of events coming up that we should
be covering...

 * Google Summer of Code and Outreach Program for Women summer
internships (June to September) - we should have posts at the
beginning and end of the internship period. We could also have other
feature pieces over the summer.
 * Marketing Hackfest (probably beginning of June)
 * OpenHelp Documentation Hackfest (mid-June)
 * Board of Directors elections (not sure when that will be)
 * GUADEC (beginning of August) - we should have a whole series of
posts leading up to and during this. Interviews with keynote speakers
and conference organisers would be good here.

I'm sure there's plenty of other things that we could have as news
stories. Anyone got any other ideas?

Report from my presence <at> FOSSCOMM 2013, April 20-21, Greece

Hello GNOMIES,

I participated at FOSSCOMM 2013 [1], the Greek annual conference for
open source comminities.
This year I had a presentation called Gnome community gone crazy (same
as Vincent's).
It was pretty interesting to the audience.

I also had a booth. I had some swag I got about 2 years ago from FOSDEM
(I think).
I had some T-Shirts and stickers.
I made some buttons myself and some brochures presenting the community
in general and the Greek Community.
I have only some stickers left and I'll try to make more buttons for
future events.

Alex Diavatis participated to a round table with major projects. We were
asked to write a report-article of the results (?) of the round table.

You can check my general report [2].

The organizers gather all the pictures from the event and also they edit
the videos. As soon as they have something, I'll update my report and
also inform you here.

Have phun,
/Stathis
