Newbie: help with multi-user/screens

I am your basic Gnome user - although I do use kde for one specific machine that runs only kde apps.

I have a system (F12) with an nVidia display card that has two VGA ports (one connected to a monitor), and an S-Video port that is connected to a TV. I also have attached to it the standard PS2 kbd and mouse, as well as a USB (wireless) kdb and mouse. So much for the basics.

What I would like to do is, simply put, have one user on the VGA with the PS2 kdb/mouse, and another user on the TV with the USB keyboard and mouse, each with their own session.

I have gone through many different setups by changing xorg.conf, and using nVidia's TwinView feature. With the latter, I could get a clone on both monitors, but I had to settle for the TV's lower resolution. And it also was only a clone, not separate logins/sessions.

I could also get a second X server started on the TV, but 1) it would not run concurrently with the first server on my monitor, and 2) it had no window manager.

So is what I want possible - two concurrent gdm's on separate i/o's?

I have tried the fedora forums, but no one can really answer that question.

Any help/pointers greatly appreciated.

TIA

ken

Feature request for Empathy: aMSN style login

I'm installing Instant Messengers in cibercafes, and there is a lot of
problems around this kind of software with the common users: the
different usability as propietary software for MSWindows.

Could have Empathy an option/plugin/skin to show as first and single
window, a simple login form for the [Email] and [Password], and detect
by the domain name ( <at> hotmail, <at> yahoo, etc.) the protocol to be used?

This could help to GNU/Linux installations in public computers. Most
common people doesn't know what to do with the "Welcome" and "Add
account" multiple window.

Thanks.

Re: Feature request for Empathy: aMSN style login

Well, an alternative is to give a dropdown control to select the network
(protocol), but the main idea is to present directly a login window.

Empathy is technically betther than aMSN, but aMSN is better to be
presented to casual people in public computers.

Thanks.

keys for zenity

Using zenity as
find /tmp/ | zenity --list --title 'DirList' --column '' --width 500 --height 500
The text is wider than the widget
Zenity displays a horizontal scroll bar but I can find no keys to access
it
By the way zenity is great

Thanks

Hi I don't know where to place this question so if someone will point me in
the right direction I would appreciate.
-------------------

Scenario

I want to create a debian live cd with the gnome desktop. I must say that I
only added the core utilities "gnome-core, gdm and maybe something else"

I started the creation using "lh_config" then added the packages I wanted
the "lh_build"

------------------------
Question

I want to auto start a program within the gnome desktop so how do I do
that???

thanks

Linking with arm-linux-gcc

Hello,

I am getting following error while compiling my c code with arm-linux-gcc cross compiler.
Undefined reference to 'xmlNewDoc'
relocation truncated to fit: R_ARM_PC24 xmlNewDoc.

although when i was compiling my c code with gcc it works fine.

While using arm-linux-gcc i provided library file path at the time compilation but still getting error. Can you suggest me what is the proper way to link libxml library file in the case of arm-linux-gcc cross compiler.

Thanks

Timeout Password Problem

Password rejected.

When the Gnome desktop times out due to inactivity it displays a window
with my name and user name and a box to enter my password. When I enter
my password it is rejected.

I can recover by clicking on change user. The gdm window with entry
boxes for user name and password then appears. I enter my user name and
password and the Gnome desktop is reopened exactly as I was last using
it.

How can I convince the timeout window to accept my password? I am the
only user on the system.
