using gnomeprint ...

Hi !! I downloaded an example using libgnomeprint that prints the text that a user enters in a GtkTextView object.  I've been reading about this library and it seems to me that it can accept PostScript as an input for printing.  If so can anybody point me to an example, or explain to me how can I create a program that uses this functionality ?

Thanks !!

migrate/replicate user's gnome environment?

Hi Folks

This seems like a bit of a nub Q, so perhaps I'm missing something
obvious - but, perhaps not?

I want to dump my gnome account user settings so as to load them in a
fresh account following a clean install.

I've used:
[morgan <at> morgansmachine ~]$ gconftool-2 --direct
--config-source=xml:readwrite:/home/morgan/.gconf --dump / >
~/Desktop/gconftool-2.dump

Followed by:
[test <at> morgansmachine ~]$ gconftool-2 --direct
--config-source=xml:readwrite:/home/test/.gconf
--load=/home/test/Desktop/gconftool-2.dump

At first glance this seemed to achieve the desired result. Except for
my menu customisations, so:
- What's the process to re-create a custom menu configuration in a fresh
account
-- I've tried to simply copy ~/.local/share across but it seems to have
no effect (not even showing up as hidden entries in Alacarte).
- Is there a better way to achieve my desired results - that is,
re-create my gnome user set-up in a fresh account after a clean install?

I feel what I'm trying to achieve is so basic that there must be
procedure that "just works" (a save and load command via gconf-editor
perhaps - am I missing something?

Any help much appreciated.

M.

broken images in nm-applet for wireless

Hey all,

I did a minimal server install in Ubuntu and built up to an fvwm
desktop. Therefore, I don't have the complete gnome package and desktop.

I still want to use network-manager-gnome however, so I did an apt-get
on it, and it works great except that I am getting boxes with red X's in
them in the wireless drop down list when there is a network that has
some sort of encryption enabled. So it seems like I'm missing some images.

Does anyone know anything else I may need to apt-get?

Thanks!

Where can I find the status of Gnome Bluetooth Manager?

Hi All,

I am particularly interested in better bluetooth support on the GNOME
desktop. I was looking at the bluetooh manager page[1], and the new UI
looks promising. I would like to know where I could find more
information about the ongoings of this project.

thanks,
Rogue

keyboard focus stolen

Hello,

Occasionally when i kill certain application on my system such as
evolution, or epiphany the keyboard focus is stolen. I suspect
metacity-dialog as culprit. Has anyone heard of a similar issue ?

When the keyboard focus is stolen the background process, video/audio
play fine. The mouse is fully functional. The window border's are not
updated., and i cannot zap ( Ctrl+Alt+BckSp ) do not work :(

TIA

(Possibly OT) Error from gnome-panel on a custom gnome-applet

I'm trying to work through the Gnome Applets guide at
http://www.gnome.org/projects/ORBit2/appletstutorial.html . I've
created the .server file and the my-example.c and it compiles fine, but
when I try to add it to the panel, it crashes. I found the following
error in .xsession-errors:

** (gnome-panel:21544): WARNING **: panel-applet-frame.c:1267: failed to
load applet OAFIID:ExampleApplet:
Failed to resolve, or extend '!
prefs_key=/apps/panel/applets/applet_0/prefs;background=none:;orient=down;size=x-small;locked_down=false

I cannot find any reference to /apps/panel/applets/applet_0/prefs in
either the .c file or the .server file. Where is this found, or is
there another way around it...?

Media questions

I have CentOS 5.0 with gnome 2.16.0 installed.  Totem seems to be the default player for everything, even though it dosn't seemt o know how to play anything (fails on all media types).  I'd like to change this.

1) What do I need to load on my system to get totem to recognize anything/everything/???

2) In the alternative, how can I change my settings to set up my preferred software to respond to CDs (CD Player), DVDs (xine), etc. so that when I open a CD or DVD or any kind of media file, a player that actually works will run and play the contents?

Thanks.

Re: Media questions

Install Gstreamer Plugins from good/bad/ugly and official packs. They
must be available thru your distro's package manager.
After that, Totem would play almost all types of files. ALso, you can
use VLC which can play even VP6 , like fla.

Cannot run any Gnome apps: "Accessibility app error"

I was curious about the magnifier so I enabled Accessibility on Friday
before I left work (but never tried it). Now I find that I can't run
Gnome programs at all. I always see the below errors. Any ideas? If I
need to disable Accessibility, how do I do this (remotely)? Thanks in
advance.

$ gnome-terminal
