browse startig dir

Hi all,

When i start browsing my file tree e.g. want to open a file in gimv/open
with etc. with some gnome apps the starting directory is always /usr/bin
where the application is located. It would be great if the entry point
could be set to my homedir. Is it possible to set this by a gconf key?
didn't find anything...

thx and greetings
Felix

Minimized Visibility (gnome-panel)

The key auto-hide-size can only be set to minimum 1. I'd like to hide
the gnome-panel completely when minimized. Why does this limitation
exist?. Any way to hide it completely?

How would the panel know it is being touched (in order to raise it) if
the panel is off screen?

Sure you might be able to hack something up where those pixels just
aren't shown, but unless your willing to write the patch yourself, I
don't suspect anyone will see it as a high priority feature.

Personally I just put up with losing that one pixel row. Its hardly
noticeable.

Cheers,
Ryan

GNOME Workplace Switcher disappeared

Hello good gnome people, and thank you for fielding a newbie question. If
this
is not the right forum to ask such questions, I apologize in advance.

My gnome desktop switcher disappeared for some reason. Also, there are no
icons in the bottom bar for the applications I have running, which makes it
difficult to navigate a busy desktop.

I am running Fedora Core 2, usually as root, with gnome packages as
follows...

[root <at> alfama root]# rpm -qa | grep gnome
libgnomeui-2.6.0-3
gnome-spell-1.0.5-4.1
openssh-askpass-gnome-3.6.1p2-34
gnome-icon-theme-1.2.0-1
gnome-print-0.37-9
gnome-media-2.6.0-1
gnome-pilot-devel-2.0.10-6.1
gnome-vfs-devel-1.0.5-18
libgnome-2.6.0-3
gnome-python2-gtkhtml2-2.0.0-4.1
libgnomecups-0.1.6-7
gnome-utils-2.6.0-2
gnome-vfs2-devel-2.6.0-8
gnome-libs-devel-1.4.1.2.90-40
libgnome-devel-2.6.0-3
gnome-keyring-0.2.0-1
libgnomecanvas-2.6.0-1

I don't believe there is currently a way to do this. There is a way to
let $HOME become your desktop (which is much nicer IMO).

Why do you want to change it?

Cheers,
Ryan
