Summary
-------

I love GNOME. I am passionate, motivated, and dedicated to building our
success, both outwardly - a foot on every desktop; and inwardly - making
sure our developer and user communities are rocking all the time. I believe
I've earned the trust of the GNOME community to represent it, both as a
communicator outside the project, and as a mediator and leader within our
community. I am here to help GNOME rock.

The Rest
--------

First and foremost, I am passionate about and dedicated to GNOME. I have not
contributed to GNOME by writing code because I found very rapidly that I was
not going to be useful to the community in that capacity. Embarrassing, yes.
Useful, no. So, I have spent a long time contributing in every non-technical
way I could. If there's one skill above all others that I bring to GNOME and
the Foundation, it is my ability to communicate and connect people together.

Perhaps it's due to being in the thick of election season here in Australia,
or perhaps it's due to having a hard year on the Board while creating a new
company, or perhaps even because the Board should be facilitating more than

Candidacy Announcement for the 2007 GNOME Board Election: George Kraft

Name: George Kraft

Bio: http://live.gnome.org/GeorgeKraft

Summary (75 words)

I think the GNOME desktop is great, and I'm an advocate of the project.
I believe that simplicity and ease of use is important for the desktop;
however, with my recent GNOME accessibility experience I've learned that
usability is multifaceted. I'm not a "rock star" programmer; however, I
would like to offer my leader experience as a former LSB chairman. I
believe it's important for the board to facilitate the talents of its
project members.

Who?

I have been a UNIX/Linux programmer for the past twenty years, mostly
concentrating in the desktop, commands, and library spaces. My first
free software contribution was for X11R4 back in the late 80s. I'm an
old Motif and Common Desktop Environment (CDE) programmer, and I have
come to love GNOME. I strongly believe in good coding practices,
specifications, testing, and standards.

Why?

I want to contribute to GNOME in a meaningful way, so for not
participating on the board seems to be the best fit for me.

[Sidenote: I'd love to see more people run for the elections! If you're
wondering whether to do it or not, do it!]

Summary
=======

I found my way in GNOME five years ago and I never left: I love the
project and I love the community. And of course, I care about both too.
While my contributions were technical ones at first, I've found out
that I enjoy doing non-technical stuff. I believe I understand quite
well our community and I can help the Foundation continue to do the
right thing for the project.

Why I'm running?
================

First, let me tell you that I'm still not 100% convinced that I should
run:

+ it's very hard for me to evaluate the free time I'll have next year.
Well, in fact, it's just impossible to evaluate :-)

+ I'm far from being completely satisfied with what I've achieved
within the board. I don't think I've been useless, but I have the

Summary
-------

The GNOME Project has allowed me to take my first steps into the world
of collaborative projects and long nights of translation sprints. Due
to my open minded attitude, I have been able to get involved in many
different projects and work with a great number of interesting people.

My passion is in the community aspect of these projects and how to
better integrate new comers and volunteers with the rest of the
community. I am also extremelly interested in how we, the open source
community as a whole, can leverage this immense pool of ideas and
projects, and use it to the benefit of all.

If ellected to the board, I will bring in my experience of building
communities and guiding/enabling users to become more active in the
GNOME Project. After all, the GNOME Project IS about people!

Biography

For the last 24 months I have been deeply involved with the planning
and organization of several open source collaborative projects, mostly

I am running for the board because I believe GNOME needs to reach out
and get more people involved, not just in development of code. We are
already really good at that and though there is always room for
improvement there are areas that need a bit more push to get going.
Areas such as marketing, art and outreach, while having been growing
recently, need to be brought up and given more visibility within the
community. I believe it is the boards job to identify areas where we
need resources and to identify leaders and catalysts who can utilize
those resources to build subprojects like gnome-love or the release
team. It is also the boards job to help remove obstacles which hinder
these subprojects.

I believe I qualify for the position because of my experience within the
GNOME community and in building bridges to other communities. I have
been part of the release team for a year, been a GNOME representative to
the LSB and and a GNOME ambassador to KDE as well as an adviser to the
board for the OLPC project.

Summary
-------

I'm running for the Board because I want to help GNOME in areas where
I haven't yet helped, but I feel capable of doing it.
I'm totally devoted to GNOME as a project and as a group, I've met
wonderful friends thanks to GNOME and learned lots of incredible
things. I'm confident that my skills and experience working with
people and doing administrative tasks will be useful to the Board.

Who am I?
---------

I'm Diego Escalante Urrelo, I'm peruvian[0] and I'm 20 years old. I've
been using GNU/Linux since I was 14. I'm a GNOME user since 2.2 days
(I confess I hated 1.4 :)) and a GNOME contributor since 2.14 days.
Probably we exchanged one or two friendly words (or maybe kicks if you
played the soccer match) in GUADEC last July.
In GNOME I've worked on Epiphany, the Accounts team and Busquad.
Locally I'm an active member of DebianPerú[1], a LUG right now devoted
into getting people involved into Free Software projects.

Candidacy: Lucas Rocha

Hi all,

Name: Lucas Rocha
E-mail: lucasr <at> gnome.org
Affiliation: Nokia

Who am I?
---------
I've been an active GNOME contributor since 2005. Since then I got involved in
a bunch of different (technical and non-technical) activities inside the
project by maintaining (Eye of GNOME and zenity) and contributing to some of
our software modules, co-coordinating projects (Google Summer of Code in GNOME,
GNOME Journal, GNOME Roadmap, GNOME Brasil, ...), side-contributing to some
teams (Web, Marketing, ...), organizing events, and other misc stuff. In the
specific GNOME Foundation scope, I've been a member the Membership Committee
for more than 1 year, from which a resigned some time after I became part of
the current Board in July. Currently, I work for Nokia on the development of
GNOME Mobile related stuff such as Maemo and Hildon. I'm from Brazil, I
have a beautiful mustache, a small beard and big smile in my face.

Why?
----
I was very lucky to have this opportunity to become a Board member for some
months because I had the chance to get to know how the actual work of the Board
happens. Naturally, it took some time until I felt confortable as a Board
member but now that I have a more clear picture of what it means to Board member
in practice, I think I'll be able to contribute much more and better. As a
GNOME contributor, I've been trying to help the community to find out its own
direction and I think that as a Board member, I'll be able to facilitate
the right people to get together and push the project forward.
