Applet doesn't run as applet

Hi!

I tried to write my own little applet in python.
So far so good. It works if I start the applet in window mode executing
vdr-applet.py -w
Unfortunatly, the applet doesn't even start if I try to add it to the panel.
If someone could have a look at my sources and maybe even solve the
problem, I'll be glad.

Problem compiling gnome-control-center cvs

I'm having a problem compiling the latest cvs gnome-control-center for
the very first time. There seems to be a circular dependency in the
make instructions.

The first make run fails in the libgswitchit directory because one of
the files there includes gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-client.h.
That file would normally be generated later in the build process. If I
swap the directory order to build in gnome-settings-daemon before
libgswitchit, the build fails in the gnome-settings-daemon directory
because that directory wants to link against libgswitchit.a.

Restoring the directories to their initial order and compiling again now
works because the gnome-settings-client.h file has been generated.

I had the same problem. Please file a bug for control-center in bugzilla.
I "fixed" the build my running "make -k" and then "make" again...

It should be OK now in CVS (at least buildable, and still runnable for
me:). Really sorry again for all that trouble. Feel free to ping me at
#gnome-hackers (ASAP) in case of more problems.

Cheers,

Sergey

GNOME and aquiring a new language

Okay, this topic has been discussed, but I must throw in what I think
about including a decided langauge.

I've written an article about the inclusion,
http://tsumelabs.com/articles/GNOME_and_the_new

I posted my thoughts on the page, and will continue to include others.

Fitting a tif file to one page in Eye of Gnome

Hello all,

I am a new user to gnome, coming from a windows background. I received a
tif file as an attachment. I opened the attachment in my default image
viewer, which is: Eye of Gnome 2.14.2. Viewing the image normally, the
image fitted to one page. However, when I checked the print preview of
the image, part of the image was sliced off. How do I resize the image
to fit to one page? I could not find a 'fit to one page' button like in
windows. I would have thought that this setting would work out of the box.

I posted this message on the gnome users list and received no response.
I would be very grateful for your help.

Many thanks

Help with bug #344521 (metacity)

I've been looking into getting support for _NET_MOVERESIZE_WINDOW (from
EWMH) into metacity.

I've gotten a bit stuck though, since I don't know how the connection is
made between XAtom and functions in metacity. I've received help and
good feedback through GNOME's bugzilla on the few bugs I've patched
before but this time it seems to have stalled :-( Hence I'm widening the
audience!

Pointers and/or help would be appreciated :-)

The patch and discussion is in bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344521

Deprecated gnome-config

Hi all.

I'd been using an old reference guide it seems - now I suddenly find that
all the gnome-config things are deprecated:

"gnome_config_set_float is deprecated and should not be used in
 newly-written code."

I've been up and down that document, and I cannot find what should be
used or what is recommended. Did some (unsuccessful) googling too...

Does anyone know what the recommended substitute is? For example, I
haven't found xml functions that are as easy to use... Certainly
none that permit partial updates.

Please file a bug about that at http://bugzilla.gnome.org. You may also
