start dates disappear and predecessor ignored when I re-open file

Greetings,

Thank to the developers and those on the list who've helped make this
product. I find it extremely helpful. But I have had one difficulty:

I have a project with many links. The task list includes two sets of
subtasks, and it's those which get confused. When I re-load the program,
their predecessor seems to be ignored, and on the Gantt chart they show
up far to the left. Their start date, normally in 2004, shows January 1
1970, though it's categorized as ASAP.

The correct the problem, each time I load the file I have to delete
those predecessors and add them again.

I'm running 0.10 on Red Hat 9. I had the problem on 0.9.1, too--same
file. It's pasted below. Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

Peace and all good,
Greg McAvoy-Jensen

Reversed Task Dependencies

I didn't find any answer in the past polls or in the documentation, so
does someone have any idea about how to did it ?

I have a task that must begin few days before another, the constrain
must be strong. I mean if my lastest task is delayed, the first task
begin later.

Any idea ?

Hi!

No, you either have to update (recommended) at school to latest version
or downgrade at home.

In the future, please use mrproject <at> lists.codefactory.se instead of the
bug tracking list.

MPP ODBC

Hi all,

I'm planning to move some web software from Windows to Linux, but I have
a little problem: this software has a utility to obtain tasks
information from a .MPP (Microsoft Project File) using a propietary ODBC
of Microsoft.

Do you know any way to do this in Linux? Do you have developed any part
of the "MS project importer"? Do you know if there is any library or
API to obtain the information from an MPP file?

Thanks in advance

Moving tasks around

Greetings everyone.

May I first congratulate the MrProject people for great work. Also for
that patch that made subtasks not crash 0.9.1.

Then a light question: how is it possible to move tasks around in the
Gantt chart. For instance, if project start date is changed, how could I
make automatic adjustments into Gantt chart (chart currently does not
change the scheduling if project start date is changed). Also, how can I
make an already entered task a subtask of another. I know what I need to
do when making a /new/ subtask, but what to do with existing ones?

Thanking you,
Filip

Resource capacity information

After having not needing mrproject for a while, I am impressed with
how it has improved.

With the ability to add resource percentages to the tasks, I was
wondering if it is possible/simple/too-stupid-to-be-workable to have
a way of indicating a resource is over commited.

My initial thoughts would be in gannt chart any tasks that move the
a resource over 100 would have a different colour for the resource
that is over-commited.

Thoughts anyone?

Regards,

Matthew

rolling forward inactive tasks

Where I use mrproject we have just a couple of people we can assign as
resources to various tasks, but we have a lot of tasks. We entered task
information into mrproject along with task dependencies and now have a
nice Gantt chart to play with. Our desire is to use mrproject to manage
dependencies and to do schedule estimation even for unstarted tasks.

I'm aware that the way we're using mrproject is probably different from
the way a number of people are using it: we don't mind if early
non-critical events slip until we get around to them; and we're tracking
a number of smaller "projects" inside a single mrproject project file.

Since we can only work on a few things at a time only a couple of tasks
a day will have any progress associated with them. There are then a lot
of tasks with no predecessors that are available to start "as soon as
possible" which stay stuck at the same place on the Gantt chart and
eventually end up entirely in the past even though noone has gotten
around to working on them.

We could constrain them to be "start-no-earlier-than" on a given date,
but eventually that date will pass and we'd have to update them to keep
them from slipping into the past as well.

So I went ahead and added a start-no-earlier-than constraint to the
tasks with no predecessors and wrote a Perl script that updates the
mrproject XML project file by incrementing the constraint date and
start/end dates for tasks with no recorded progress which have a
start-no-earlier-than constraint whose time now lies in the past. We
run this once a day now, though running it multiple times a day won't
corrupt anything, and running it after an indefinite hiatus works as
well.

Seg Fault opening up saved mr project files.

I'm currently running MrProject 0.9.1. I can open mrproject and create
any layout I want with no problems. I can click on save and have no
problems at all. However every time I try to open up any saved
mrproject file I get the following error:
Application "mrproject" (process 3785) has crashed
due to a fatal error.
(Segmentation fault)

Of course the process ID increments. Attached is a mrproject file I
created this morning to test this problem.

This file has nothing special about it and only 4 entries if I remember
correctly, can't open it to verify. There should be 2 primary entries
and two sub entries under the first one. Has anyone run into this
problem?

question about serializing task

Hi,
I am using MrProject for the first time and I have a problem about
serializing tasks: I have many tasks that should be accomplished by the
same person and, of course, these tasks should be serialized. I do not
have any preference about the order of these activities, so that any
order is good. I do need the serialization since I need an estimation of
the duration af the project.

Actually MrProject let all activities start the first day of the project
but that person will not be able to do all of that at the same time :-)

How do I set this kind of things in MrProject?

Version information: mrproject 0.9.1 on Debian/powerpc "testing".

I thank you very much,
Giuseppe Sacco
