Exif UserComment editor for GQview

I know that GQview is not actively developed, it seems that
Geequie will be its successor.

In the mean time I wrote a quick Exif UserComment editor to hook
to the external editor commands of GQview.

Read some notes and download the Python script here:

Suggestion for gqview

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the proper channel to make suggestions but i'll
try anyway:

In gqview has currently tied a left mousebutton click to 'next picture'.
I would like to suggest to tie left mousebutton to 'zoom 1:1' and allow
for panning while pressing left mousebutton down.
This is very intuitive, you can try for yourself it in FastStone's image
viewer or MaxView.
There are already plenty of methods to go to the next/previous picture
in gqview so loosing the leftbutton should not be an issue.
Or even better, make it a preference.

Best regards,
Jeroen Valkonet

Offline rotation

Hi list,

One feature which I really like about the 'pho' image viewer
(http://www.shallowsky.com/software/pho/) is that whenever one quits it,
it outputs a list of all rotations one has applied to the images viewed.
I then use this information to let 'jpegtran' rotate my images accordingly.

I was wondering whether there is any comparable way to access the
information that GQview keeps on which images have been rotated (for
display purposes only) using the "[" and "]" keys.

First I thought I'll use the external jpegtran commands which come on
Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 with the standard Debian install of GQview, but I find
the response of those a bit too slow, so I'd prefer to use the quicker
"[" "]" rotations and then do the transformations on the actual files
offline in one go.

Any ideas?

best,
flo.H

how to add comments to files (themselves)?

Hi list,

From within GQview, I would like to add comments to my images. However,
I would like to save these comments directly in the images (using the
COM field of the JPG header or the EXIF comment field).

I had hoped that the "Comment" section in the keywords dialogue might be
configurable accordingly, but it seems that it always stores the
comments separately in the metadata text files.

Using GQview's awesome external editor functionality, I have tried
various voodoo using 'jhead -ce' and 'wrjpgcom' - in the hope that I
would get an external editor window to open into which I could write my
comment. However, I didn't get this to work.

Any ideas on how this could be implemented?

best,
flo.H

Images with transparency (checkerboard background)

Whenever I view an transparent image, it is shown against with
checkerboard background. It can make some images difficult to view.
Is there a way to set it to use a solid-colored background?

gqview's similitude measure

Hello,

I use the "find duplicates" tool in gqview, and I would like to know
what exactly the "similitude" measure is.

Also, if anywone here knows a similar measure which is insensitive to
picture rotation, please let me know.

By the way, gqview has proven very useful to me, thanks a lot to the devs !

cheers

Recursive

Is there a way to have GQview display all images in the top level

Geeqie: a fork of GQview

Hi all,

We (Vladimir Nadvornik and Petr Ostadal) have created a GQview fork named
Geeqie. It's homepage is http://geeqie.sourceforge.net. We want to improve
features useful for handling digital photos.

Here is a list of already implemented new features:
http://geeqie.wiki.sourceforge.net/new_features

Feel free to join the mailinglist and check out the source or binary packages.
Any feedback is welcome.

Now we want to integrate the existing patches. It would be helpful if you
could sent the patches to our mailinglist.

Vladimir

Enhanced GQview - alpha quality packages for testing

Hi,

Since there is some progress in our Enhanced GQview project, I have created
some packages for various distributions to allow easy testing.

The packages are here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/nadvornik:/GQViewE/

Of course you can also compile it yourself from this subversion repository:
http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/GQViewE/

Here is a list of implemented features and TODO:
http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/GQViewE/trunk/README.GQViewE

and here is some kind of project page
http://idea.opensuse.org/content/ideas/enhanced-image-viewer-for-efficient-photo-management

The features are not yet complete, but there were some code infrastructure
changes and I would like to get reports about regressions. I am also
interested in comments about usability of the new features.

command line option for recursive slideshow

hello.

I'd like to run gqview at the startup of my Xsession, directly in
fullscreen and recursive diaporama from a given directory... is it possible?

as from "man gqview" I got the -f and -s options ... but nothing for the
recursive fullscreen.

Could you please add a -r (or other) option for recursive (and random)
slideshow?

thanks.
B.
