Coaster-devel Project Status Update

The project has been stale from quite some time we know!

There seems to still be a lot of interest in this project making it into
the final stages of development. What we need to do this is more help
from the outside. Bryan and I seem to be too busy to continue efforts on
the project full time.

If anyone has suggestions on how to get Coaster back on its' feet, let
us know.

Hmm, arch isn't set up correctly! I just typed this:

tla register-archive http://arch.coaster-burner.org/2005

I get this error:

unable to access URL: /2005/.listing
webdav error: 404 Not Found

So what's up here?

Nothing's up here, huh? Where can I watch the status of development of
coaster and how can I contribute anything?

Well yes, but I don't think it's due to any fault on your part. Arch is
kind of weird to grok at first and the 'tla' implementation of it
doesn't help very much. The instructions on the coaster website look
like they are out of date, but are only really out of date in a few
places. Here are the steps that I used to setup my arch repository. I
use the bazaar tool ('baz') instead of 'tla'. These steps use version
1.2 of bazaar. Version 1.3 just recently came out and had some changes
that will likely obsolete these instructions.

#Create arch ID
baz my-id 'Mark Drago <markdrago <at> mail.com>'

#Register the remote archive
baz register-archive http://arch.coaster-burner.org/2004

#Create your local archive
baz make-archive --signed
markdrago <at> mail.com--2005 /home/mdrago/code/arch

#Tell baz how to sign stuff it wants to sign - be sure to have a gpg key
created
#[create the ~/.arch-params/signing/=default file and add the line 'gpg
--clearsign']

#Create a branch off of the main coaster branch (notice the old domain
name is still there - the actual name of the repository hasn't been
changed)
baz branch coaster-devel <at> coaster-burn.org--2004/coaster-gui--main--0.1.1
markdrago <at> mail.com--2005/coaster-gui--main--0.1.1

#Check out a copy from your new branch
baz get markdrago <at> mail.com--2005/coaster-gui--main--0.1.1

Now, I'm kind of new to arch myself, but this works for me. I have an
arch repository set up at
www.markdrago.com/arch/coaster-gui--main--0.1.1 that contains a few
patches that I've already added to bugzilla. I hope this helped.

> Is anyone else working on large-ish additions to Coaster like this?

I've gotten your bugzilla report and I have these patches applied to my
local copy. The next release of Coaster (beginning of May with audio
support) will have these patches. I need to get around to closing those
bugs ;).

> Is anyone working on something and would like some help? Are there other
> things that I could be working on?

If you would like, please take a look at libburn. I'd like to get HAL
support into it, put Joliet support into its libisofs (it's been
written, I just have to patch it in), and fix some endianness issues on
PowerPC (when you create an in-memory iso and write that directly to the
disc writer, it won't mount; however writing from an iso from the
filesystem works). Also, taking out all the C++ namespace stuff that
wraps the C functions is high priority for me.

> What remains for Coaster to become a full CD-burning solution?

I'd like to drop the nautilus-burn dependency. It's a pain and it uses
cdrecord/mkisofs/etc. If we can totally depend on libburn, we'd be set.

> Does anyone have any arch-repositories set up that I can pull code from
> for testing / playing around purposes?

I have a repo set up on my laptop, but my web provider doesn't allow
apache to list directory contents, so I can't mirror it on my own
server. Hopefully in the next two weeks, I'll have a beta of the audio
stuff that people can test.

> I'll be going to GUADEC, are any other Coaster contributors going?

I know that I'm not. I have no money and no time. One of these years
I'm going to go ;).

Re: Coaster-devel coaster web site

Mark,
I'm not sure what's up; I can't get to it either. The reason you can't
get to the arch repo is because that's located on the web server as
well. I'll check with Sean and see what's up.

Coaster-devel Coaster Debian packages

Hello people!

I made a Coaster package for Debian Sid (unstable) distribution. It
works quite fine here, so I decided to make them available to public.
You can get them using Debian Mentors service
(http://mentors.debian.net). You'll have to build them, but it's not a
problem thanks to apt-get and cdbs. More info here:
http://mentors.debian.net/usage.php

I didn't do a pbuilder test yet (no free space left on device here:)),
but I hope it'll build fine on latest sid.

It should build on Ubuntu as well. Please mail me if you successfully
build an ubuntu package.

PS Please CC me.

PPS Sorry for my english...
