GNOME 2.19.6 Released!

================================
GNOME 2.19.6 Development Release
================================

This is our sixth development release on our road towards GNOME
2.20.0, which will be released in September 2007. New features are
still arriving, so your mission is simple : Go download it. Go compile
it. Go test it. And go hack on it, document it, translate it, fix it.

Lots of modules have great plans for 2.19 and if you're willing to
help, there's a lot of areas where you'll be heartily welcomed! Don't
hesitate to ask how or where you can help. If you don't even know
where to start, just send a mail to our fantastic gnome-love mailing
list.

To compile GNOME 2.19.6, you can use GARNOME
(http://www.gnome.org/projects/garnome/, which supports users and has
additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild
(http://www.gnome.org/~jamesh/jhbuild.html) modulesets (which use the
exact tarball versions from the official release) available at:

    http://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/2.19.6/

The release notes that describe the changes between 2.19.5 and 2.19.6
are available. Go read them to learn all the goodness of this release:

GDM2 2.18.4 (stable), the "Time And Again" Release

AOOH-GAH
--------

If you have no clue what GDM is, refer to the documentation links
at the bottom of this announcement.

The 2.18.4 release is a stable release of the GNOME Display Manager
(GDM) program with the following bug fixes and improvements:

- Fix for CVE-2007-3381, a denial of service attack where the
user can crash the GDM daemon with a carefuly crafted
GDM sockets command and cause GDM to stop managing future
displays. GDM now is much better about safegarding against
NULL values returned from g_strsplit calls. Credit given to
   to "JLANTHEA". (Brian Cameron)

- Remove setting hints.ai_family != AF_INET6 to fix bug #455190.
   (Brian Cameron)

- Translation updates (Priit Laes)

Note: GDM2 was originally written by Martin K. Petersen <mkp mkp net>.
Much work has been done on GDM2 by George Lebl; and Brian Cameron
now currently shares maintainership duties with the Queen of England.

Note2: If installing from the tarball do note that make install
overwrites most of the setup files, all except gdm.conf. It will
however save backups with the .orig extension first.

GLib 2.14 released

GLib 2.14.0 is now available for download at:

 ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/glib/2.14
 http://download.gnome.org/sources/glib/2.14

glib-2.14.0.tar.bz2 md5sum: 6fabf21f68631043bc6924e01398e3af
glib-2.14.0.tar.gz md5sum: 672d5c67a0d9d624dca44f3e369b332c

GLib is the low-level core library that forms the basis for projects
such as GTK+ and GNOME. It provides data structure handling for C,
portability wrappers, and interfaces for such runtime functionality
as an event loop, threads, dynamic loading, and an object system.

GLib 2.14 is a stable release adding an incremental improvement
in functionality over GLib 2.12 while maintaining binary and
source compatibility.

Major new features include:

 * GRegex: an implementation of Perl regular expressions,
   based on PCRE

 * GSequence: a list that is implemented using a balanced
   binary tree

 * g_get_user_special_dir(): Support for xdg-user-dirs

For more details and lists of fixed bugs, see the
announcements of the 2.13.x development releases:

Epiphany 2.19.6 released

Following a brief absence, here's a new Epiphany release announcement by
e-mail. This announcement is has also been published on
http://blogs.gnome.org/epiphany/ in slightly modified form.

Epiphany 2.19.6
===============
The most important change in this release is obviously that an
experimental WebKit back-end was added by Xan Lopez during the GNOME
conference.

Regular development has to continue as well, so we’re happy that Cosimo
Cecchi has contributed a lot of small but not less important gnome-love
bugfixes!

Changes:

      * Add support for the WebKit engine, compile with –
        with-engine=webkit to activate
      * #162489: Added a checkbox for smooth scrolling.
      * String changes based on user feedback:
        - “Local sites” -> “Nearby sites” (because it is a better
        description)

        - Drop the “Quick” prefix from Topic/Bookmark items in toolbar
editor, because it has no function besides confusing users.

      * We now use g_get_user_special_dir to get the Desktop and
        Downloads directory location
      * Use the new gtk functions to persist and load the print settings

Swfdec 0.5.1 is out

Hi,

Here is yet another release of your favourite Flash player. And it
even comes with new features!

swfdec-0.5.1 "Heeeeelium"
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec/0.5/swfdec-0.5.1.tar.gz
MD5: 073974b436afc3791a436ddd449580dd

This release can finally play embedded Youtube movies, since URL
handling got an overhaul and the Stage actionscript object got
implemented. WIth this, of course all those movies scale correctly
now. And last but not least, Swfdec got an OSS sound backend for all
those poor people still stuck on BSD.

swfdec-mozilla-0.5.1 "Kill the baby"
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec-mozilla/0.5/swfdec-mozilla-0.5.1.tar.gz
MD5: 173fbfc701785d7f485de1291007bff4

With the new Stage goodness, the mozilla plugin can now implement more
features from the <embed> tag. And the plugin does proper popup
blocking now.

Swfdec of course still follows the no-crashes-allowed policy. So it is
safe to install as your plugin. Should you still succeed in finding a
crasher, please immediately file a bug at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org.

For more information about Swfdec, see http://swfdec.freedesktop.org

gnome-applets 2.19.1

As promised, a version of gnome-applets that passes 'make distcheck'.
The fault was not particularly serious, so this release will probably
only benefit those who speak Dutch or Swedish.

You can find the tarball at the usual place, or one of its mirrors:

Changes in GNOME-Applets 2.19.1
