PROPOSAL: Merge mifos-functional list into mifos-users mailing list.

Hello community,

With the goal of consolidating our mailing lists and making sure people know where to post their questions where they’ll be most actively discussed and quickly answered, we’re proposing to merge our mifos-functional mailing lists into the mifos-users mailing list.  Since the launch of our mifos-users mailing list in October 2008, traffic and activity on our mifos-functional list has begun to slow down as the topics of discussion between the two are quite similar.

Making this change will greatly simplify where users and developers go for questions and discussion.  By consolidating traffic in one place – it will improve the speed in which outstanding responses get answered.  Technical discussion will take place on mifos-developers.  Non-technical discussion on implementing Mifos and its functionality will take place on mifos-users.

If you have any objections or suggestions to better improve our mailing lists, please let us know.  Otherwise, we’ll close out the mifos-functional list on Friday March 24.  Archives will still be available from sourceforge.net, gmane, and google groups.

From here on forward, please use mifos-users for discussion that you previously would have held on mifos-functional.

What this means for you:

-          Conversations that will now take place on mifos-users and not mifos-functional:

o    Discussing design of new features to be developed

o    Asking questions about current functionality

o    Investigating potential bugs in the system from a functional perspective

These join the existing list of topics for mifos-users located here: http://www.mifos.org/developers/listserv/mailing-list-topics

-          Existing mifos-functional subscribers will be subscribed to mifos-users.

-          Any in-progress discussion topics on mifos-functional will be migrated to mifos-users.

Thanks,

Ed Cable

Re: hidden and mandatory fields in Mifos

Anyone know the answer to Anita's question?

Mifos writing/style conventions

Is anyone aware of any writing conventions for Mifos manuals and/or
published materials? For instance, how to format/emphasize text,
abbreviations, that sort of thing?

MIFOS-2609: should it be ok to transfer clients to groups in "pending approval" state?

Hi there, would someone mind taking a look at my last comment on
MIFOS-2609 and help figure out what the functional requirement is, or
where to look?

savings - interest posting when minimum balance is not reached

HI there

We are currently fixing an issue in Mifos where interest isn’t posted correctly if the savings account at one point in time did not reach enough minimum balance to get interest, but now does.

We are changing the behavior slightly so that at an interest posting time, if the account still does not have minimum balance to get interest, Mifos will still log an interest posting and it would be 0.  This makes the logging of interest postings in Mifos consistent across the board, as there will always be a posting logged at the frequency set in the savings product, but it will be 0 if minimum balance is not reached.

I’ll update the FS to reflect this.

Thanks!

Kay

Multi Company feature

Hi
My name is Charles from Ghana and I am an IT Consultant. Mifos was
recommended by a friend of mine who is into Micro finance and I have
looked at the features and they are great.

However I was wondering if the development team has considered
building a multi-company edition where small or start up micro finance
companies can lease the use of the service from service providers.
This will help these companies streamline their operations with very
minimal capital outlay towards the purchase of servers, employing
database admins etc..
All they will be required to purchase will be a mobile handset and a
portable battery powered printer.

The service can be deployed over the cellular network. A micro finance
application can be developed for mobile handsets which will
communicate securely over GPRS with the Mifos banking application
hosted by a service provider.
Some thing like Mobile Banking.
Some of the benefits will be that these micro finance companies can
reach a wider scope of unbanked customers in their respective
communities even in the remotest parts where traditional banks will
not have reached.

I believe that such a system will go a long way to help micro finance
companies and service providers bring banking to the very door steps
of masses.
You may research on M-Pesa system in Kenya.

Thank you.
Charles Gaituah

Deleting client records in Mifos

Hello Stephen,

Within Mifos it is by design that you cannot delete any records, accounts, additional fields, etc.  This was done for the sake of data integrity and to preserve historical data for auditing purposes, etc. given this is financial software.

As you probably already know the client can be removed from the group and moved to the closed/inactive state.

And yes, this is the proper forum for functionality and design-related questions - traffic however has decreased on this list with much of the former activity now taking place on our mifos-users mailing list.  We might potentially merge the two lists going forward.

In the future, please feel free to start a new topic/question regarding your post so that it has a relevant subject line.

Thanks,

Ed

Greetings Mifos Team,

Here is here question verbatim:

"Why is it not possible to remove information entered into the system?
For example; if I enter a clients details into a group and I would want to
delete that client from the system outright, it seems impossible."

Can you help. Are there pre-conditions that we are missing? Is this the
proper forum for this question?

Thanks
