installation help

Hi guys

somehow my webserver doesn't seem to be prepared to execute .pl as cgi

I have this in my
        <Directory /usr/share/ledgersmb>
                # SetHandler perl-script
                AddHandler cgi-script .pl
                Options ExecCGI Includes FollowSymlinks
                Order deny,allow
                deny from all
                allow from 192.168.0.0/16
        </Directory>

Apache 2.2

I know I must be missing something basic ...

secondly: the SVN does not load :( I can't get at the manual ...

thanks

Bernhard

I installed ledgersmb on Ubuntu Gutsy a couple of days back. Some of
your files you listed are also owned by www-data, so it appears you are
also using a Debian derivative. When I extracted the ledgersmb tgz in to
/usr/local, I changed the ownership of the tree to www-data and never
encoutered this problem:
$> sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /usr/local/ledgersmb

Before doing that many files were owned by root.

More experienced users on this list will, of course, point out if I am
missing something.

Good luck.

Hmmm, what README.debian did you use? This doesn't sound like the
/usr/share/doc/ledgersmb/README.Debian that shipped with the 1.2.15
.deb release

> BTW, while testing the build, it asked me install two additional

Do you happen to remember which these were so we can work toward
getting them included for the .deb?

> 4. Then I started to follow the Manual Install in the INSTALL file.

OK, so I'm thinking maybe you weren't using
/usr/share/doc/ledgersmb/README.Debian and that's why you started
using the regular INSTALL file. Typically in a Debian package we
wouldn't even have included INSTALL (in fact, it creates a packaging
warning which I had to override), but I made the choice to keep it
because it had a nice troubleshooting FAQ in it (devs - can we move
troubleshooting FAQ to another file so we can stop including INSTALL
in our .deb? :)). The /usr/share/doc/ledgersmb/README.Debian is what
we expect users to use for installation on Debian/Ubuntu, many of the
issues you go on to explain in this installation report are addressed
there.

Thanks,

Re: installation help

Hiya

thanks for that

yes I am running Ubunty Hardy and installed the rpm, after having run it through alien with dpkg. hence my ledgersmb.conf living in /etc/ledgersmb.conf for instance.

I did chown -R www-data.root *

may well be that there is an issue following the symlink

cheers

Eeep. There is a Debian package that will probably help a lot:
