ownet/java [update]

Due to backward compatibility of JDKs, and programming simplicity,
I have changed the return type of OWNet.Dir and OWNet.DirAll methods
from Vector<String> to String[].

I know, changing the API in that way, is not a wise. I hope
not to cause troubles to those who have already started using it)

Checked and succesfully compiled with

Windows: SUN javac JDK v1.5.0_08
Fedora Core5: Eclipse Compiler v_585_R31x, 3.1.2

Changes are in cvs.

I had actually tried that before, curious to what would happen rather
than expecting it to be the answer to my question. That it did not
accept "/" meant nothing to me before, but has now allowed me to spot a
bug in my code. It now accepts "/", but I am getting a segmentation
fault in owlib instead. I have tried to trace it as best I can, but can
only get as far as the `BUS_select(pn2)' call in FS_realdir()
(ow_dir.c:459). I am not sure if it is crashing on that line, or within
the function it calls, but I cannot trace any further.

I believe this is where it calls the adaptor-specific X_select()
function. It should be calling OMAP_select() for me, but I do not
believe it is. I am calling `owopt('o', optarg, opt_server)' in my
init() function, which should set it to the OMAP adaptor. Unless there
is another step I have missed along the way.

Same here, I altered my construction to the hobbyboards-design, I have a
2x24characters-Display, and only the first line is writable...
It's because the display-size is undefined, the hd44780 supports up to
40 characters per line
(http://home.iae.nl/users/pouweha/lcd/lcd0.shtml#visible_ddram) so you
need to fill the string you write with 40 characters and the 41st one is
the second line.

I have a 2x16 character display, and I never thought to try writing an extra 24 characters to get to the second line.  It works!  Thanks for that hint!
I also have a 4x20 character display that isn't hooked up right now.  Will I be able to do the same to get to the 3rd and 4th lines?

Has anyone been able to use the buttons in the hobby-boards design?  I tried it a few months ago and couldn't get it to work.  I can't remember the problem exactly, but I know that what I tried caused the display to get into a funky state every time.  I think it was when I tried to reset the latch that the button was assigned to (because resetting one latch resets them all).

In the DS2480 datasheet, the following is stated:

6 POL RXD/TXD Polarity Select. RXD/TXD polarity select; tied to GND for RS232
(12V or 5V) connection; tied to VDD for direct connection to UART chip.

Sorry I lead to certain misconception with the eagle library you used (I
think). There I've written:

The RxD and TxD lines are operated at 0V/5V. The POL pin selects the RxD and
TxD "polarity", that means straight-through or inverted. If POL is connected
to GND, RxD and TxD behave properly for connection to inverted RS232 drivers,
like the MC1488/1489 or MAX23x chips. If POL is connected to Vdd, RxD and TxD
behave properly for direct connection to a 0V/5V UART chip.

So the POL pin should be connected to GND if a simple
diode/transistor/resistor network is is used as the RS232 "interface", like
the Elektor schematic presumably does. If inverted drivers are used in the
peripheral, they are used on *both* sides (computer and peripheral), so the
inversion is gone and POL need to be connected to Vdd.

Hmmm. Maybe I should update the library. Could anyone of the native english
speakers here come up with an unambiguous text?

Kind regards

	Jan

There have been reports and testing of the DS2760 thrmocouples:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.owfs.devel/2180
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.owfs.devel/93

The datasheet for the AAG thermocouple at http://www.aagelectronica.com/pdf%20docs/Thermocouple(TAI8560).pdf
Looks pretty close to the circuit shown in http://www.owfs.org/index.php?page=thermocouples

So the questions are:
1. Do the prior tested designs still work?
2. Is the AAG model different. (There is example code to compare in Delphi and Java).

When you use the devices, do you see the normal DS2760 values? Temperature, vis, etc? That would be helpful is tracking this down.

If by path you mean something like "/10.23AD234523/temperature" the answer is simple:
You use "get" for  the root path ("/" or actually just "") and build from there.

The explanations for what devices support what properties, their format, function, measurement units, etc is in the man files. Presumably they would need to call a function that tells them the

owfs 2.6p1

Hi,

I want to compare my binary generated with gcc 2.95.3 with the binary rpm on the owfs site for 2.6p1 to see If this is my compiler they are problem with owfs.

I download your rpm binary of owfs 2.6p1 and install it on my Suse 10.0 workstation.

I have exactly the same problem with owftpd.

When I started ./owserver -d /dev/ttyS0 -p 3000
and startest ./owftpd -s 192.169.2.4:3000 -p 192.168.2.4:3001

I must specify the TCP adress for the option -p.  whiout it the program
don't start.

and I connect with the ftp client of Suse 10.0 and
I go to /bus.0/bus.0/12.12345000000/TAI8570
and I try to go up to the parent directory
cd ..
pwd
/bus.0/bus.0/12.12345000000
cd ..
pwd
/bus.0/bus.0/12.12345000000

It's not possible to go to parent directory.

I must specify the directory directly not relatif

cd /

I have exactly the same reaction on my version and the binary version.

Also I tested the owhttpd

When I started ./owserver -d /dev/ttyS0 -p 3000
and startest ./owhttpd -s 192.169.2.4:3000 -p 3001

They are more stable than the version 2.6p0.

I habe the same trouble with version 2.5p10

When I go to the directory /bus.0/bus.0/12.12345000000/TAI8570
for the first time, I have three field with value:

pressure
sibling
temperature

when I go up and I return to the directory /bus.0/bus.0/12.12345000000/TAI8570
I don't have value for the field sibling.

owhttpd 2.6p1 work comparatively to the owhttpd 2.6p0 that don't work at all.

Owftpd version 2.6p0 work with lftp but not with ftp.

The system not go to parent directory /bus.0/bu.0 but stay on /bus.0/bus.0/12.AC32F0000000

Why not leave the bus.x directories alone and try /12.AC... ?

It's impossible to go to parent directory with ftp client.

With version 2.6p1 the owftp have the problem that when I do the cd .. all the file into /bus.0/bus.0/12.AC32F000000 have the same name /bus.0/bus.0/12.AC32F000000.  They are a probem.

Also with owhttp, the version 2.6p1 don't work.

Do you want I send you my binary version of owserver, owftpd and owhttpd that I compile with gcc 1.95.3?  Perhaps it's a problem of compiler?

Also we begin to write a owtelned server with the owcapi library of 2.5p10 to request the server by a telnet client or a data acquisition software that open a socket on the owtelnet server.

Please help me to fix owfs.  I can send you my binary of owfs 2.6p1 if you want.

No, not for 2.6p1 (or 2.6p0) Work fine for me.
I suppose you know this, but if all the owfs programs are not shut done between new versions, the shared library stays in memory and will be used again.

That includes owfs, owhttpd, owftpd, owserver, owperl, owpython, owtcl, owphp.

(Doesn't include owshell(owdir, owread, owwrite,owpresent) or ownet programs(OWNet.pm,ownet.vb ownet,py,ownet,php,ownet,java))

Also with owftpd, when I do many cd .. and I try to return, the directory structure in very confused.

Again, seems to work in current version.
There is a problem with bus numbering which I'll hunt down.
Reads were potentially returning the entire allocated buffer rather than the actual data length in owftpd -- fixed in the CVS.
cd seems to work, both in stand-alone and in owftpd -> owserver configuration.

It appears you are the first person to really explore owftpd, which is why your observations are so valuable. Thank you again.

I think, directly after the 20 characters in the first line you write to
the third line and directly after that the second and fourth line... at
least thats what's it looks like in the datasheet. The HD44780 controls
80 characters.

But would be cool to have a function to directly jump to the next line
in owfs. writing >60 characters always takes some time...

I tried that... you can write 0 to PIO.[0-2] to put your 5V on it... so
you can have blinkenlights with some LEDs... unfortunately you write
some trash characters to the LCD... so the cursor should be in a non
visible area...
Now, when PIO.x is high you can use sensed.[0-2], this reads 1 when the
switch isn't on and 0 when connected to ground. You should use the
uncached-tree for this.

It really seems like this order... try it... you should catch that by a
small script...

Another strange effect with the 3 free pins on the ds2408 I just
discovered... I have Pin0 in high-mode, so PIO.0 is 0, when i now do
something with the display, like writing something, or clearing the
screen, owfs puts the Pin in low-mode again.
So when I have some buttons there this would mean I would have to put
them back in high-mode to read their state. Maybe a developer can take a
look at this, would be nice to leave the state of pins 0-2 untouched.

I had caressly left the POL to GND, extending the Elektor schematic :(

MAX232, translates the -12V for '1' and +12V for '0' to +5v for '1'
and 0V for 0 (MPU/TTL compatible), so on the DS2480 side, -12V has
become TTL logic high (+5V) and +12V has become TTL logic 0 (0V).

Now, it sounds clear to me that POL should be connected to Vdd when
dealing with TTL logic inputs (+5V for logic '1') or GND if we are
conneted to RS232 protocol voltages (-5V or -12V for logic 1).

If this is correct, that's what I would like to read on DS2480 specs. Unless I'm
not so familiar with English reading, I find the 11a,b,c figures a bit confusing
concerning the role of UART/uC. I can only be helped reading Figure titles (DIRECT, +/-5V, +/-12V)

btw, do you know where I can find a good walkthrough tutorial on editing
library components for Eagle (Schematic and PCB)? I need to modify some components
(mainly resizing/relocating their PADs)
