OpenAFS 1.7.12 released for Microsoft Windows

OpenAFS 1.7.12 is the latest in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.

The significant changes since 1.7.11 are:

 * Windows cache coherency issues fixed.

 * Fix BSOD condition
   . when multiple threads attempt to open the same file system
     object simultaneously resulting in memory corruption.
   . the stack is exhausted as a side effect of an out of
     memory condition.

 * Prevent a potential AFS FileLock leak during file cleanup.

 * Improved handling of VNOVOL and VOFFLINE errors when produced
   by the file server during a volume backup, readonly release
   or salvage operation.

 * Reduced CPU utilization.

1.7.12 is the recommended release of OpenAFS for Microsoft Windows
users. It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from
Windows XP SP3 through Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server operating
systems from 2003 SP2 through 2008 R2 SP1.  The 1.7.12 Windows client is
fully compatible with all AFS server versions.

For UNIX, Linux, and MacOS X the recommended production-ready release of
OpenAFS is 1.6.1.

2012 European AFS and Kerberos Conference & Call for Papers

This is to announce that the 2012 European AFS and Kerberos Conference
will take place in the University of Edinburgh School of Informatics
from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th October 2012.

The call for abstracts is open and so please feel free to submit your
presentation proposals. As always the conference will examine the
development outlook for AFS and Kerberos implementations, it will
highlight current projects and will offer space to proposals and new
ideas. Also, sites will be able to present their AFS and Kerberos
activities in site reports. Please submit proposals by email to
openafs-conf <at> inf.ed.ac.uk.

Come talk to your peers in general about:

   * Completed projects
   * Work in progress
   * Case studies
   * Best practices
   * Related research
   * Theories, new ideas
   * Updates on previous talks

or anything else of note involving AFS and/or Kerberos. The conference
will address themes such as:

 * Fixed a bug introduced in 1.7.9 that results in
   afsd_service.exe termination on unlog.exe or equivalent.

1.7.11 is the recommended release of OpenAFS for Microsoft Windows
users. It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from
Windows XP SP3 through Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server operating
systems from 2003 SP2 through 2008 R2 SP1.  The 1.7.11 Windows client is

OpenAFS 1.7.10 released for Microsoft Windows

OpenAFS 1.7.10 is the latest in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.

The significant changes since 1.7.9 are:

 * Improved compatibility with anti-virus and other
   anti-malware products.
   . Fixed kernel deadlocks with Trend Micro when file is truncated
     to zero bytes.
 * Another file cache synchronization error fixed.
 * Redesigned AFS PIOCTL processing to workaround broken SMB protocol
   implementations.Ensure that file data is flushed to the file server
   before file locks are released.
 * Prevent afsd_service crash if a file is marked delete on close and
   the file server is unreachable.
 * Avoid File Control Block ERESOURCE contention during file create
   and open operations.
 * Correct an RX deadlock introduced in 1.7.9.

OpenAFS 1.6.1 release available

The OpenAFS Gatekeepers are pleased to announce the availability of OpenAFS
version 1.6.1.  Source files and available binaries can be accessed via
the web at:

        \\afs\grand.central.org\software\openafs\1.6.1\

OpenAFS 1.6.1 is the second of a new series of stable releases of
OpenAFS. Sites running 1.6.0 or prereleases of 1.6.1 are urged
to upgrade; The 1.6.0 fileserver has a bug which can under some
circumstances cause data loss in replicated volumes.
Additional details are available in the release notes.

Bug reports should be filed to openafs-bugs <at> openafs.org.

Thanks are due as usual to our dedicated team of binary builders
(Douglas Engert, Christof Hanke, and Ben Kaduk) without whom the broad 
range of released binaries would not be possible.

OpenAFS 1.7.8 is the latest in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.

The significant changes since 1.7.6 (1.7.7 was not announced) are:

 * Improved compatibility with anti-virus and other anti-malware
   products.
 * Significant improvements in processor utilization and parallel
   processing.
 * BSOD issues fixed.
   . Avoid race during file control block deallocation.
   . Disable bugcheck in release builds.  Too many out of memory
     conditions were triggering BSODs.
 * Deadlocks avoided
   . VolumeCB->ObjectInfoTree.TreeLock
   . ExtentsResource during CcPurge
 * Directory and file data synchronization errors fixed.
 * Permit rename of a file to itself without error.
 * Permit Explorer Shell to set UNIX mode bits.
 * Ignore AFS File Server file lock counts when deciding whether fail
   a lock request.  File Servers prior to 1.6.1pre5 do not report
   accurate values.

1.7.8 is the recommended release of OpenAFS for Microsoft Windows users.
It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from Windows XP
SP3 through Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server operating systems from 2003
SP2 through 2008 R2 SP1.  The 1.7.8 Windows client is fully compatible

OpenAFS 1.6.1 release candidate 4 available

The OpenAFS Gatekeepers announce the availability of the third release 
candidate for OpenAFS version 1.6.1. (pre3 was not released)

OpenAFS 1.7.6 is the latest in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.

The significant changes since 1.7.4 (1.7.5 was not announced) are:

 * Improved compatibility with anti-virus and other anti-malware
   products.
 * Significant improvements in processor utilization and parallel
   processing.
 * Several BSOD issues fixed.Directory and file data synchronization
   errors fixed.
 * Renaming of open files permitted.
 * More precise error reporting when symlinks and mount points cannot
   be resolved and when the volume is read only.
 * "NonPersistentCaching" mode can now be used with read/write data.
 * Better failover handling when a file server reports VBUSY errors.
 * "fs flushvolume" works with the afs redirector.
 * New commands: "fs setverify" and "fs getverify" added to manage a
   new data verification mode.
 * NPGetUniversalName path truncation error fixed.

1.7.6 is the recommended release of OpenAFS for Microsoft Windows users.
It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from Windows XP

OpenAFS 1.7.4 released for Microsoft Windows

OpenAFS 1.7.4 is the third in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the

 * Kernel crash when renaming directories to the root directory
   of a volume fixed.</li>
 * Potential kernel deadlock when renaming files fixed.
 * Windows Advanced Firewall (Vista, Win7, Server 2008)
   configuration modified
 * Explorer Shell extension error resulting in application
   crashes fixed.
 * Windows Folder Redirection service crashes fixed.
 * Suspend and Resume Power Management for the AFS redirector
   driver implemented.  Microsoft Office applications now
