GPartEd on CD to manage Hard Disk Partitions. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
Grub or Lilo boot loader from Linux install to select at boot time.

i run several boxes with linux; two desktops ubuntu + xp pro, one laptop
centos + vista. all dual-boot fine with no problem, tho the laptop still
doesn't have wireless support (it's an old centos; i've been using it for
over a year).

just google >linux windows dual boot< (without the ><) and you'll find tons
of links. it's actually quite easy, especially since vista has the "reduce
disk size" feature. on the xp pro's, i used gparted or parted and they both
worked fine.

once you get grub configured, make sure you have the opsys you want to
default boot located first in the grub location, or make sure it's clearly
designated as the default choice. it makes booting a lot easier as you can
restart the default system "hands off".

RE: suse linux9.? dual boot with window 7

thanks a lot guys,

i will try what all you guys suggested, i do have a suse linux9.3 runnung,
but as i installed it on a desktop, it wipped out the window/xp which is fine;
as i am planning to buy this hp laptop with 4gb that will come with
windows 7 ( and without recovery disk, it is advertised at costco), so that
is why i am asking , so this idiot will not install my suse linux and wip
out this einzige copy window 7,

and i will follow up with all the suggestions, and hopefully you guys will
be patient with me, thanks in advance !!!

Instead of using dual boot, I'd recommend using VirtualBox. I run Vista x64 and Windows 7 RC x64 as hosts and various other operating systems as guests under VirtualBox primarily but also use VirtualPC and VMWare in some instances.

I am glad not to have to dual boot anymore except in very rare instances.

Updated version supports shorter instruction code table, to
minimize false data to opcode conversion. Use OPTION S370 or
S390 for smaller table. Also added code to produce explicit
lengths for hex zeros (XLnnn'0') and blank terminated strings
(CLnnn'text')
