PearPC won't boot off my ISO :(

Hello all,

I am a first time user of PearPC and I decided to give it a try.  It looks like I am having a problem though and I'm wondering if anyone can help me.

I am running pearpc on windows xp and I used pearpc control panel to configure the configuration file.  All of that was easy enough but now when I try to boot off the iso so that I can install Mac OS X, I get a grey screen with circle with a slash through it.  My assumption is that means the iso is not bootable.

My question is, can anyone tell me how to make a bootable iso that I can use?

The way I created this iso is as follows:

Put the Mac OS X dvd into a mac dvd rom
Drag and Dropped it to a program called ISOlater
Moved the ISO to my windows xp machine

Please let me know if I need to add more information.

Thanks,

Lovell

Re: PearPC won't boot off my ISO :(

Hi Lovell,

The ISO image may not be the problem. Your configuration file may
also contain errors. PearPC Control Panel is slightly out-of-date for
the latest version of PearPC, so you may or may not want to continue
using it. The PearPC.net Wiki has information about configuration
file settings, ISO images, and more.

I am not sure how to debug this.

Not able to install OS X

Hello all,
I am still having trouble trying to run pearpc on my windows xp machine.

I try to boot off the .iso so that I can install Mac OS X (10.4), and I
get a grey screen with circle and a slash through it. My assumption is
that means the iso is not bootable.

I copied the config file from the pearpc wiki but I still get this same
problem.

Can anyone help me make some sense out of what is going on so that I can
make some progress in getting this installed.

Thanks

How does it work - newbie

Hi - I'm new to all this... I want to run Final Cut Pro (professional video editing software) and am on the verge of spending £1,000 plus on a Mac... then I heard I could buy software that would let my PC load Mac OS-X, and therefore behave like a Mac...

So can anyone help me... how does it work... does it work at all...does it slow your PC down...etc any info fgreatfully appreciated

Get the mactel it will work cleaner and faster than pearpc could (pearpc is emulation of motppc on intel x86.)

Hello - sorry I can't offer any help, but I am interested in what you are doing... I have a high spec PC and want to use Apple's Final Cut Pro  video editing software...but don't want to shell out £1200 on a Mac....

I'm interested to know ..should the Pear software allow you to load Os-X, and then boot your PC  tricking it into thinking it's a Mac...???

Re: Not able to install OS X

I am new to pearpc as well and from what I have seen of it (not on my own pc obviously) it doesn't trick your pc into thinking its a mac.  It emulates the mac OS X software.  I would say to look it like vm ware or virtual pc but for mac os x since vm ware or virtual pc doesn't support mac os x.

You boot up into your windows box, then you launch pearpc which will open another window and run mac os x that you installed from a .iso image that you created from the original mac os x cd.

I'm surprised that NO ONE else has run into my particular issue.  I even tried going to the forums and I got the same response, NOBODY!.

I guess I will be trashing pearpc and label it as non-functional.  I certainly hope you have better luck with the user community and forums then I have.

Re: Not able to install OS X

well with that attitude you're certainly not going to get any help...and I believe the reason for less and less people visiting and helping out at the support avenues for PearPC is because the macs are now all Intel and since all mac software is moving to Intel and PearPC emulates just the PowerPC processor, PearPC is becoming obsolete and in the near future will no longer be of much use...if you want to use OS X it's worth buying a mac because since they now have the Intel processor you can now run, Mac OS X, windows, pc linux/unix distros, bsd, etc...it's basically a pc except with no limitations as to what OS they can run ;-) :-D ....and to top it off they all come by default with enough power to be vista capable ;-) :-)
