Hello!
When was 3.07 released? And was the last snapshot that Ivan created
going to contain any fixes that would enable Putty to work versus
using on Windows the regular Telnet client?

Or are these fixes only available in the code now residing in the Git
based repository?

I know from previous discussions that there are message generation
features that are not available in 3.07, but that's not what I am
concerned with.

Hello!
I just finished downloading the GUI components to this laptop. I also
made sure to retrieve the FishLIB set of libraries as well. After
making sure that the right set of libraries was keeping the program
company, in this case 64 bit ones for the 64 bit program, I went ahead
and started things up. I made sure where the configuration file for
Hercules was found, and the Hercules items as well. Instead of being
greeted with the system wanting to start, I instead get this error, it
gives the command line chosen, then complains about Prometheus not
being found. And that's the program name, not the Hercules one.

As I recall that's where my efforts to get Hercules running native on
this laptop ended.

I am now going to swap the libraries out and try the 32 bit one,
despite the fact that the Hercules program is for 64 bit. I'll also
try running Hercules native, that is from the command line.

Hi!

Has Development Resumed on Hercules at this point?

And if so which Repo should one download the latest code if Development has
been restarted?

Hi, Herculeans:

I have an issue with LCS device and OAT. If you read the documentation, you
can define a SNA device, but then, the documentation says that SNA is not
yet implemented.

Do you have any ideas of when the SNA support might be available?

I need to start a SNA device, because I have in real mainframe a NJE driver
to move spools in JES2 from one machine to another LPAR and remote printers
that are defined in an AS/400 with SNADS. I am preparing now a "test" LPAR
using backups of real disks in hercules, and I would like to have NJE vía
LCS adapter in order to have the output printers from AS/400 visible from
hercules.

If SNA is not implemented in Hercules and there's no plan to have that
support early, how could I configure NJE in order to use IP instead of SNA?

Hi everybody,
Can anybody explain why Hercules keeps writing something on z/OS volumes even in stopped state? That seems to happen every 10 seconds even after I stopped the Hercules machine ('P' command via console.). I have allocated all the z/OS volumes on a SSD drive and I'm trying to avoid all the unnecessary writes when I'm not using the z/OS system. But so far I've not been successful because of the Hercules background writing activity.
I have use the Sysinternals Process Monitor to filter the write activity.

I'm off to setup a mainframe in a new data centre using the Customised Offerings Driver (COD), so thought I'd try out the process on Hercules before flying thousands of miles only to find out that it doesn't work for whatever reason. But, I'm having trouble getting the COD to work in Hercules and I'm hoping one of you gurus will be able to point me in the right direction?

For those unfamiliar with COD (which included me up until a few months ago), it is a 3 volume Driving system from which you can complete your sites installation (cbipo, serverpac, etc). The COD is delivered on DVD's. Each DVD is IPL'able and contains a DFDSS dump of one of the disk volumes. The IPL loads the standalone DFSMSDSS utility from where you can issue commands to restore the Driving system disk volumes. e.g. "RESTORE FROMDEV(DVD) TOADDR(0200) PATH('/SY1') FULL NOVERIFY"

The steps taken to get the DVD/s to IPL in Hercules were as follows:-

1) Copied the DVD contents to HDD - perhaps not necessary?
2) Set SCLPROOT to address the copy of the DVD e.g. SCLPROOT D:/Hercules/DVD/
3) IPL from the DVD using command "ipl D:/Hercules/DVD/SY1/DFSMSDSS.INS"

The Standalone DFSMSDSS utility program starts up, press enter a few times to setup the input and output to console, then issues the RESTORE command mentioned above at which point the following messages are received:-

ADRY4304I AN ERROR OCCURRED DURING A READ FROM DVD OPERATION
ADRY3531I DVD UNEXPECTED UNIT EXCEPTION
ADRY3533I DVD UNABLE TO VERIFY THE DUMP DATA SET
ADRY3003I FUNCTION TERMINATED. CONDITION CODE IS 12

Sysinternals procmon shows the first dump file being read successfully (there are 17 dump files on the first disk, each about 120MB big) then nothing.

Question for those of you that know the Hercules internals well, should it be possible to restore from DVD, or am I wasting my time?

The version is a bit old, and the error might have been corrected in a later version.

And I can wait until at newer verion comes online somewhere.

Subject: IBM 3490-E01 Desktop with auto loader available

I am rearranging my office and have just boxed up my
IBM 3490-E01 desktop unit with auto loader. I used it
with my Flex PWD laptop that timed out a few years ago.
It has has an HVD wide SCSI interface. I also have an
HVD to SE wide converter, a SE SCSI PC-Card for a
laptop and all the cables.

If anyone is interested, drop me an off-list email with
an offer. The unit is located near Orlando, but I regularly
travel though GA, AL and the Chattanooga area. I even have
a bunch of new cleaning tapes and new 3490 tapes that
I would throw in. I also have three manuals.

If someone would also cross-post this on the Herc list,
that would be appreciated.
