Facebook page

Hi everyone,
Anyone want to take care of our Facebook page?
If not, does anyone mind if I get rid of it?
The page only has 77 likes, which is a far cry from the 2157 +1's we get on
Google+.
Given this number, I'd rather focus on our Google+ and Diaspora pages,
which are more in line with our freedom philosophy (Diaspora much more than
Google+, of course).

set Oxygen icon theme as default

Hi,

After installation, we see old Tango icon theme
(for example, in LibreOffice Portable).
We could have a bit more modern like view just
by using Oxygen icon theme (maybe in LO 4.1).

I created a proposal in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64670

Regards,
Mindaugas B.

Using +LibreOffice on a daily basis after...

"Using +LibreOffice on a daily basis after a while without using "normal"
word processor is both surprisingly smooth and frustrating.

I think the "styling" capabilities are fantastic and just need some GUI
tweaks to bring huge improvements for me (and I hope others).
Integration with reference managers (mendeley, jabref, zotero) is OKish but
could be much improved as well (it is much more than small tweaks here
unfortunately, and the fact that the existing support seems to be broken
for each..."

Banner for Upcoming QA contest

Hi all,

you might know, there is a QA contest for 4.1 coming up. To promote the
contest, it'd be great to have a banner to advertise it.
All the details on the contest are/should be here:

  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Projects/Bug_Triage_Contest

There's a proposal for the banner text from Joel:
"LibreOffice invites you to participate in our 4.1 RC Bug Confirmation
(triage) Contest taking place from June 20th - July 5th - For Details:
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Projects/Bug_Triage_Contest"

But I don't think this is set in stone, if something shorter works, I
guess that's fine. It might also be a good idea to mention you can win
shirts.
The preferred file format, as always is SVG, so we can export it to PNG.
It would be best to have two banner sizes:
* one for the LibreOffice main page, in the top (400*58px)
* one for the LibreOffice pre-releases (890px*70px – feel free to tweak
the height of this one) (I've also thought about if we can maybe use
HTML + CSS + web fonts, to create a more responsive banner, but I'm
not sure if we can actually use this.)

Deadline would be on 20th, so in four days. Don't feel pressured by
that. :)

Stefan.

[DISCUSS] Proposal to improve style workflow in writer

Hi,

I have been an irregular user of LibreOffice since the old staroffice days,
but also a LaTeX user for longer texts. I would like to share some ideas on
realistic improvements for people who want to use styles exclusively.

My main gripe with the current GUI is that everything encourages ad-hoc
formatting instead of reusing styling. I feel that the use of style should
not require using the crowded style dialogs more than ad-hoc formatting. To
address this, I propose two main changes: a "style toolbar" to replace the
formatting toolbar, and a redesign of the stylist to let us edit common
properties from the stylist directly (along with some other changes). Some
of the proposed things may not be easy to implement now, but I feel that a
partial implementation would not be problematic and would greatly improve
my workflow in LibreOffice.

I'm also a newcomer to this mailing list or to design work, thus let me
know if I'm doing this wrong!
Should I open an enhancement request instead of (or in addition to) using
the mailing list?

You can find a mockup here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/p2vqqmlj1k4msjx/LO_wireframe.pdf<https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dropbox.com%2Fs%2Fp2vqqmlj1k4msjx%2FLO_wireframe.pdf&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNEUGdCeKHQ5g_FaNvqyCuIvAUSXEw>
Excuse my poor artistic skills!

PS: I'm willing to contribute code if there is interest in this kind of
changes, but would need some guidance.

Best.

Next IRC meeting/Sat, Mar 15, 2013

Hi all,

the next IRC meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, 1600 UTC, as
used to be the case in the /old days/. Should no one show up, we can
reschedule and hold it on Sunday again, as we did the past weeks.

Also, I got some messages regarding the last chat log. It's up now. :)

IRC chat: Sunday?

Hi guys,
Unfortunately, it seems like, again, I won't be able to attend tomorrow but
will be able to on Sunday. Same thing next week.
Would it be okay to move these two chats to Sunday, 16:00 UTC?
If you plan on attending, please reply if you can make it on Sunday or if
Saturday's the only option for you.
Thanks.

Hackfest Flyers (URGENT)

Hi all,

Does the Design team have cycles to draft a Hackfest flyer by Monday latest?
_Anything_ is better that nothing, Eike and me try to get them distributed on
the local University campus. Note that having this is a good thing in general:
Once we have one, we can reuse it for later Hackfests and Sprints.

If there is no reply, I will try to make up something myself. To clarify: That
is a threat, not an offer. ;)

Best,

Bjoern

Improving styles UI based on cases studies

Hi folks,
I'm very involved with writing processors, and I'm trying to teach my pupils to work with styles, which
should be one's first intention after all.
So I designed the documents they're going to work on since they are too young to do it. Then I turn the
documents into a template they can use reuse and abuse.
Those templates comes with styles, my own styles, carefully named after their meaning and they open with
the custom styles on.
BUT
The custom styles tab display only on kind of style at a time either page, paragraph, characters or ... else.
Wouldn't it be nice if the custom styles tab displayed all the custom styles for the current document, from
page to list ?
If we want people to work with styles they shouldn't have to look for them, for what they don't see does not exist.

How about a comprehensive list of custom styles ?

Am I clear ;-) for English is not my first language ?

Michel
