Unable to read checkpassword: file does not exist

Hello,

I seem to have a problem with checkpassword. I am able to run it with pop3-qmail. I am able to authenticate passwords with it. However, If I try to install anything in /usr/ports, I get:

All I was trying to do here is install mutt. This happens with anything I try to install in the ports. I have checkpassword in /bin and /usr/local/bin. Please help!

Thank you,

The Makefile for checkpassword creates a program called "install"
which is not intended to be installed itself; it simply installs the
checkpassword program. Apparently, your system's normal "install"
program was overwritten with (but not by) the "install" program for
checkpassword. If you installed this "install" program yourself, you
shouldn't have; just follow the instructions. If you used someone
else's (apparently buggy) installation procedure for checkpassword
(perhaps the ports tree?), then you can report this problem to whoever
maintains that alternate installation procedure for checkpassword.
You might also consider not using that alternattte procedure and just
following DJB's instructions for installing checkpassword.

authorization failed - OS X

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting checkpassword to pass the test described at
http://cr.yp.to/checkpwd/install.html on OS X.

I have netqmail 1.04 all setup with pop3d on OS X 10.3.2 (gcc 3.3) but pop
logins and the aforementioned checkpassword check refuse to work.

Am I missing something somewhere? I'm sure someone's got checkpassword
working on OS X before.

Thanks all!

Ask Google about "checkpassword errno patch". Second hit:
<URL:http://moni.csi.hu/pub/glibc-2.3.1/>

RE: authorization failed - OS X

To add some extra info here.

DJB's pages at http://cr.yp.to/checkpwd.html offer no help in
troubleshooting at all.

Q-Card pages at http://www.kitabjian.com/dave/qmailhelp/#Retrieving do not
refer to the standard DJB's checkpassword; this proves even more frustrating
when you run off to check dead-ends like /var/qmail/users/popasswd which
don't apply to DJB's standard checkpassword utility because that just reads
directly from /etc/passwd.

Anyway, as I've clarified, I'm using DJB's checkpassword from
http://cr.yp.to/checkpwd.html and I have tried several leads and still can't
find any solutions. I can't even find log entries for failed logging
attempts.

Anyone, please, someone must have gotten this working... :(

Thanks,
-VolVE
