Client priority on Vista 64bit

Hi, folks.

On Windows up to XP and all Linuxes the Dnet client always started with
low priority ("low" on Windows, "nice" on Linux). Since I run it on my
Windows Vista 64bit, it starts with "normal" priority and I have to
change it to "low" manually. I don't know if this is a 64bit issue,
might happen with Vista 32bit as well.

Anyone else having this (or even an explanation)?

Thanks and cheers,
Boris59

Re: Client priority on Vista 64bit

I am not able to confirm this issue, as for me the client (installed as service) runs on low priority on Vista
64bit.

I guess it might be another problem.

Greetings,

Björn

What does your INI file look like? You can set the CPU priority there.

hmm,

just checked the client on my XP 64bit machine and it is running as a 32bit process running on low priority.

Forgot to mention I also have a 32bit version, as no 64bit native version is available.

Re: Client priority on Vista 64bit

Use the 32bit client. The 64bit client has been pulled for that bug iirc
(although I can't find the specific bug report).

The 32bit client ends up being faster at rc5, slower at ogr.

Kaspersky Lab Forum > Stop GPCode > GPCode subforum

Anyone with any thoughts of helping Kaspersky crack a hostageware key ?

http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=71652

I mean, we have the infrastructure, but binaries would have to be written.

Maybe it'd be a way to really shove Distributed.Net out of the
"trojanware" realm some AV vendors want to stick us in.

An RSA 1024 bit key is a tall task - if that estimate of 15 million
computers for 1 year is correct, we'd definitely need longer (looking at
the current userbase) - but I'd participate in what looks like a useful
task.

The d.net client/infrastructure is the best I've worked with yet and I'd
volunteer ~60 x 2 GHz
.

Based on the history of Gpcode, which is a fascinating read, by the way,
one can easily predict what would happen if we crack the key.

The virus author would just update the key to (say) 2048 bits and
release the new version. All the megawatt hours we spent would become
essentially useless (with the exception of being able to decrypt old
files, but I doubt anyone would wait with those for several years until
the key is cracked).

Re: Kaspersky Lab Forum > Stop GPCode > GPCode subforum

And who says the key's used aren't also from some private corporation the GPCode author want's to decipher.
Perhaps the author just wants us to crack the key for other evil purposes.

But as mentioned earlier, it might help to get the client out of some/many virus definitions.

Greetings

Robin
