A lot of newer 'name-brand' PCs have a hibernate button on the keyboard.
Hitting it is the same as manually doing Start->Shutdown->Stand By which
will force the computer into stand-by mode irrespective of what's
running. I imagine this is acheived by mapping a macro to the
appropriate key. Check out TUCOWs or some other download site for a
macro mapping program and create your own that'll suit your keyboard.

New clients now available

Be sure to check out http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.html
for the newly released clients. Additional platforms will undoubtedly
be forthcoming in the coming days and weeks, so have patience. Personal
proxies supporting RC5-72 are currently still only on the pre-release
page (again, more platforms will be forthcoming).

A few more details are in my plan update:

Digital unterschriebene E-Mail von FreeMail / Digitally signed email from FreeMail

(english version see below)

Sie erhalten in den naechsten Minuten eine digital unterschriebene E-Mail

RC5-72 started and no reaction!

I really don't understand you!

The long expected project RC5-72 has started on www.disribuetd.net and not one reaction happens at this list!

Nevertheless there are still no stats, but IMHO the distribution of the clients makes the project start.
Tell me if I'm wrong.

I only recognized it, because my proxy couldn't connect and so I checked the plan updates, although I'm
subscribed to the plan-list and I usually receive all infos.

But anyway I'm sooooo happy, like most auf you, that it finetaly started (even this year, what I didn't
expect, because of the big delays ;))

Installer question - probably a bug - was Re: New clients now available

Hello,

I've notice that the installer ask to reboot at the end of the procedure.
This looks like a bug. Under windows 2000 that I'm running, the client
should be register as a service (and not added to startup group (which is ok
for w9x platforms) as offer by the installer option, bug number 2) and
services can absolutely be stop and restarted without rebooting the
computer.

This should make the NT installer much greater.

Best regards,

David Burg

It seems they've still got some optimizing to do however... The altivec
cores for rc5-72 don't seem to be ready yet and as such I now get
748,988 keys/sec instead of 3.4 mkeys/sec on my G4/400 :/

Re: New clients now available

Do these clients have any improvements to the OGR code?

Will that include a client for (x86) Linux kernels 2.0.x? I was most
unpleasantly surprised when -without any warning anywhere- the new client
just told me my kernel was too old and aborted just there.

And again, will the new Linux perproxy run with kernel 2.0.x? I don't
mind not doing RC5-72 on that box, but not being able to run a personal
proxy will remove one of the great advantages that d.net's infrastructure
has for me.
