How to set WM (?) in ROX-Session

OK. Am on Mint, have got ROX-Session running. (Quite beautiful, by the
way, nice and fast, and UI very intuitive.) It is looking to me, that I
am missing something important, though I don't know what. The widgets
have clearly changed some, which is good (everything is faster), but I
don't have a menu or icon which represents/delivers logoff, shutdown, or
xterm. I can build an icon for xterm and shutdown, but what about
logoff? Is there a fundamental package I am missing? I did a bunch of
hunting, didn't find anything obvious.

Accessing Ubuntu System Menu

Hi All,
is there a way to access the Ubuntu System->Administration->etc  menu system from ROX, or from the command line for that matter?

Cheers

Re: Accessing Ubuntu System Menu

IMHO, the best solution would be to ask Konstantin Korikov to add an
Administration submenu to his XDG-Menu panel applet:
http://xdg-menu.sourceforge.net/

Meanwhile, go to /usr/share/applications with ROX Filer and click on
the launcher of whichever application you want to start.
Unfortunately, the file names are different from what you can see in
System/Administration.

Thanks for that, but the problem is I don't know what the application is
called (I want to allow remote login), which is why I wanted to open the
menu so to speak so I can follow the Ubuntu tutorial.

Clicking on ROX-Session should provide some options...

AppDirs and the shell

The page http://roscidus.com/desktop/AppDirs says:

"You do not need to change your PATH variable to use an application directory. To be found by the shell (which
must be application-directory aware) ... "

My feeble eyes didn't find mention of shells that are application-directory aware. Is there a list
somewhere of shells that are known to be? I tried a feeble little experiment with the bash, and either I made
a silly mistake or bash is not application-directory aware.

Suggestion: Replace Picky With Mirage

Mirage is a fine lightweight image viewer and would make an excellent default for Rox.

Five reasons.

1: It uses python, libx11 and libc libraries exclusively, and you like those

2: Supports drag and drop loading of images (no XDND saving yet, but I'm sure someone could work that in)

3: Built in custom menu allows images to be opened in the graphics manipulation tool of the user's choice.

4: Offers the user a range of basic image viewing and manipulation options including rotate, resize,
slideshow and thumbnail creation.

5: Built in screenshot utility

Best place for system-wide ROXApps in Linux?

I've got some ROXApps that I want to make available system-wide in Debian. My first thought was to create a
directory in /usr/local and place the application folders in there (e.g. /usr/local/apps). After that I
would create scripts in /usr/local/bin that call each ROXApp's AppRun so that the Apps are also available
at the command line.

However, after reading http://www.pathname.com/fhs/2.2/fhs-4.9.html#FN23, I get the impression
that maybe I'm not supposed to be making new directories in /usr/local. Or may I?

Any other suggestions for the best place to plant system-wide ROXApps?
