ROX-Session C version update

I've updated the C version of ROX-Session so that as well as its own
AutoStart directory it implements the XDG autostart specification as
well. I've also given it a nice new icon "borrowed" from GNOME 2.20.
It's available by svn from:

https://rox.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/rox/branches/c-rox-session/ROX-Session

To go with it I've written an AutoStart applet to manage the XDG
entries. I didn't realise somebody had already written one, but mine's
better (I would say that though) because you can use it to control
whether entries are started in ROX and/or other environments. AutoStart
is available by git from:

repo.or.cz/srv/git/AutoStart.git

Tide 1.0: a real-time text editor

Tide 1.0 is released. This is the first version I've called 'Stable',
and it can now be expected to behave sanely in most circumstances.

Tide is a real-time text editor: as you edit, changes are reflected
on-disk immediately; there is no need to 'save' changes.

Zero install feed and further information can be found at
http://riscque.net/Tide .

Uninstalling rox

Hi, I want to uninstall rox, what do I need to delete (FC7)? Actually to
make a totally new installation with out any config files or anything.

Is it only the alias in ~/bin and some directories in .config?

TaskTray and wnck

I'm using debian etch and the latest RoxAll. I've been messing with trying
to get TaskTray working (used to work fine when I was using Zenwalk). I
real like TaskTray, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get
around the wnck errors.

Anyone willing to enlighten me? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Gary

Sure, we'd love to help you out. We just need to know what "wnck
errors" you're having.

All configuration is in ~/.config (or maybe ~/Choices for older
programs). That's all you need to delete to reset everything.

Assuming you used Zero Install, the software will be in
~/.cache/0install.net, but there's no need to delete that if you're
just trying to reinstall (only if you want to free up disk space).

Why are you trying to reinstall? Has it stopped working?

OroboROX

I've been using metacity for a while but got fed up with it because
rather than fix its bugs the developers prefer to deliberately add more
bugs in case people dare to "abuse" options to work around the older
bugs.

So I tried OroboROX again. In terms of window management behaviour, ease
of configuration and availability of attractive themes it really has no
peers. Sure, it's slower than others in wm_torture, but not by any order
of magnitude, and not enough to be detectable in normal usage on a
modern PC:

Avg map response (s) Throughput (win/sec)
            ------------------- --------------------
OroboROX 0.025195 53.759
openbox 0.015310 81.207
metacity 0.018667 104.569

It still has the problem with withdrawn windows though :-(. That doesn't
affect gnome-terminal's profile dialog any more (I expect gnome-terminal
has been changed) but it does still affect sound-juicer's dialog for
naming a new profile. Can anyone remember other dialogs that are
afflicted? I'd still like to see this bug fixed and the performance
improved, but not confident I'm capable to do either. Window managers
and Xlib are arcane things. In the meantime though OroboROX is still the
best choice for me even with these problems.

ROX-Filer: A Lightweight File Manager that Simply Rocks

ROX is one of the genuinely interesting file managers available for
the major platforms - GNU/Linux, Unix, Mac OS X, and Windows (under
Cygwin). As can be inferred from the manager's website, ROX-Filer is a
project aimed to move the best features of RISC OS onto Linux and Unix
platforms. Its small footprint and configurability are its
unquestionable hallmarks.
