Just to confirm - these patches have fixed both the segfault and
subsequent problems with dbus.

The delay appears when the waitpid() function is called.
I closed the rox window immediately after it opens, so you see the
duration of the delay:

--------
...
21:58:07 rt_sigaction(SIGINT, {0x8076070, [], 0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0
21:58:07 waitpid(-1, [{WIFEXITED(s) && WEXITSTATUS(s) == 0}], 0) = 1795
21:58:28 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
21:58:28 --- SIGCHLD (Child exited)  <at>  0 (0) ---
21:58:28 waitpid(-1, 0xbfa0ae34, WNOHANG) = -1 ECHILD (No child processes)
...
--------

The hole trace can be found here:

Problems after python 2.4 upgrade

I had been getting rather tired of an apparent python error occuring
when trying to run many ROX apps (many just don't run at all and the
reported error is a python string module assertion). So I decided
to upgrade python to 2.4. .... big mistake!
*Every* ROX app then failed (including ROX-Session). ROX Filer kind
of worked but would not do any run action at all. All attempts to
update ROX apps failed. I ended up having to install new versions of
pygtk which required newer glib, and dbus broke and new versions of
it won't build. Zero-install broke and had to be re-installed and I
had to re-install ROX Filer and so I downloaded ROX-All-0.4.
But having resolved all these problems there are some new problems
which didn't occur when using python 2.3...

1. Edit and ROX-Session try to update but fail with "Error updating
    interface 'http://rox.sourceforge.net/2005/interfaces/ROX-Lib':
    Interface has changed, but modification time hasn't! Refusing to
    update".
    Not wishing to break anything else, how should I resolve this?

2. Numerous ROX apps now show errors like:
   (Edit:10974): WARNING **: `GtkTextSearchFlags' is not an enum type
   (0launch-gui:10974): WARNING **: `GtkTextSearchFlags' is not an
enum type
    This doesn't stop the app from running but is annoying.

Lots of other ROX apps fail in various ways. For example:
Rename--
/usr/apps/old/Rename-0.0.3/AppRun:2:in `require': No such file to
load -- libglade2 (LoadError)
         from /usr/apps/old/Rename-0.0.3/AppRun:2

Reports filesystem is read only, which it is, but only after ROX has
tried to write to it.

To cut a long story short, reformatting the pen drive on Windows
seems to have fixed the problem. I can now write to the pen drive
using ROX-Filer.

If you're interested in the details of the investigation read on...

This may explain the problem (when mounted by ROX-Filer)...

The text of the error message would be very useful...

First, we should find out why you're getting this error. Diff the new
version against the version in the cache:

$ cd ~/.cache/0install.net/interfaces
$ diff *rox.sourceforge.net*ROX-Lib{,.new}

What's "rox.conf"? Is this a modified version of the filer?

> http://still2come.net/~till/temp/strace-rox.txt

OK, it's just waiting for a sub-process. Try adding '-f' to the strace
command:

$ strace -tf ROX-Filer/AppRun -n

New web site registrations

The new web-site is coming along nicely:

http://rox.sourceforge.net/drupal/

SF have fixed the email problem, so registration is now automatic (may
take up to one hour for the email to arrive).

Ken, Stephen and I have moved many of the pages over, but I don't want
anyone to feel we're hogging all the fun - feel free to help out (and
correct any errors you find).

If it says permission denied when you try something you think should
work then please either leave a comment saying what needs to be
changed, or complain to me that you should have access.

Software and theme authors can add their stuff here:

http://rox.sourceforge.net/drupal/node/add/flexinode-1

You don't need to add it manually to the software index or to the
theme gallery. Just give it the correct categories and it will appear
in the right places automatically.

Re: delay when launching rox-filer

Ok - first of all: the problem is solved now. I was neither caused by
the kernel update nor related to rox.
I was simply a problem with the network configuration (see below).

--------
till <at> vdr# cat /usr/ROX/Choices/rox.conf
#!/bin/sh

CHOICESPATH="$HOME/.rox:/usr/ROX/Choices:$CHOICESPATH"

This script is invoked by the startscript for rox:

--------
till <at> vdr# cat /usr/bin/rox
#!/bin/sh
if [[ -f /usr/ROX/Choices/rox.conf ]]; then
        source /usr/ROX/Choices/rox.conf
fi;
if [[ -d "$APP_DIR/ROX-Filer" ]]; then
        APP_DIR="$APP_DIR/ROX-Filer";
fi;
export APP_DIR CHOICESPATH
/usr/ROX/Apps/ROX-Filer/ROX-Filer "$ <at> "

rox-filer crashes when viewing large directory full of PNGs

I'm having an issue with the system hard locking when attempting the browse a
large directory of PNGs with thumbnails enabled. The display appears full of
garbage when this occurs. Just a note, I am using the nvidia proprietary driver
and Xorg 7.0 (although the same happens in 6.x) and rox-filer 2.4.1. RenderAccel
is enabled in xorg.conf.

Does anyone else have a similar issue or a workaround for this issue?

Thanks

- Robert
