What about RPM for RH < 7.2?

Many of us are still with older version of RH, and would higly
appreciate specific RPMs of latest rox.
This, of course, if the rpms you refer to are unusable on RH < 7.2:
are they?

I do not have prior to 7.2 versions of Red Hat Linux installed any more,
so I can not tell you if the binary RPMS would work with them. I suspect
they will not work because of the dependency on glibc. In any case
you can rebuild them from the source rpm package:

	$ rpm --rebuild rox-1.1.8-1.src.rpm

Sorry, the binary was compiled against Gtk+-1.3.10. It should be fixed
now...

Debs and RPMs

Thanks both of you; I've put the RPMs on the site and updated the
debian info...

Ah, yes. It's in the gui_utils package, but I'm intending to replace it
with a new python version using ROX-Lib.

I'll put the instructions in the FAQ.

`irc.openprojects.net' on the channel `#rox', but it's best to arrange a
time first, as we don't use it much.

Feature request: opening new windows

I have Rox set to open new windows (RISC OS style) instead of reusing
the same window. Currently, when entering a directory, a new window is
always opened even if there's already a window open onto that
directory. I would prefer if the existing window could be raised to
the top of the stack instead. It would result in less clutter and
confusion.

Isn't that what Options->Filer windows->Unique windows does?

Updated rox application page

Since we had a public holiday in germany here (at least in some parts), I
finally managed to update my rox software page a bit.

You can find it at: http://www.chrisarndt.de/rox-software.html

The newest cool thingy I wrote, is a GUI for the creation of application
wrappers. Check it out!

	http://www.chrisarndt.de/software/AppSetup.tar.bz2

There's also a package with rox support modules for python used in the
various utilities:

	http://www.chrisarndt.de/software/rox-modules-1.0.tar.bz2

ROX developers might want to have a look into the included
app_utils.py. It features a path search function for application
directories and an implementation of the help showing scheme I proposed
some weeks ago on rox-devel (Subject: 2 feature proposals) (and which was
met with limited enthusiasm ;-).

Cheers,

Action window size

In a Find operation, I ended up with an action window which was
several screens wide. Could the "Window size limit" option be applied
to action windows as well as filer windows?

Updates at kerofin

Updates and new stuff at http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/

ROX-CLib 0.1.4 (http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/libs.html)
--------------
My library for ROX programs written in C. It contains a number of
functions useful for writing ROX apps and applets. Some of it
(choices.c for example) is lifted straight from the filer.

0.1.4 adds rox_resources_find() which is used to locate resource files
that may be internationalized.

AppFactory 0.1.4 (http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/utils.html)
----------------
Program for generating ROX wrappers for non-ROX programs.

0.1.4 fixes a problem where the Help directory could end up with the
wrong name. It requires ROX-CLib 0.1.4.

mime-edit2-1.1.8.patch (http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/patch.html)
----------------------
Updated version of the patch which aids editing of the MIME type database.
This version should avoid a memory leak.

bookmark-1.1.8.patch (http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/patch.html)
--------------------
Patch to have up to 10 bookmark directories which can be changed to
with a single key press, e.g. ctrl-1 to set the current directory as
bookmark 1, then press 1 to return there.

symtip-1.1.8.patch (http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/rox/patch.html)
