PCManFM beta release postponed and may require unfreeze.

Here I want to ask our developers/translators for some opinions.
We already entered feature and string freeze.
However, I want to request an exception because current pcmanfm missed
a REQUIRED feature for a file manager.
We didn't implement undelete for trash:// then the trash bin support
became totally useless.
The reason this is not implemented is because glib/gio didn't provide
support for this.
However, today I found that it has partial support for it, but this is
not documented in API doc.
So, actually we can do it. Missing this feature is actually a severe
usability bug since this makes trash bin useless.
A new string "Restore" or "Undelete" might be needed for this menu
item to restore trashed files.
If there is no objection, I'd like to request an exception for the freeze.

Any comment?

PCManFM 0.9.4 beta2 will be released in two days

Hello all users, developers, and translators,
After almost three weeks of bug fixing, I'm going to release PCManFM
0.9.4 beta2 in recent two to three days.
Now we are in a state of string and feature freeze.
No new UI changes affecting translations will be done unless it's
required to fix bugs.
So all translation teams, please update the translations before the
beta 2 release if you can.
As Lubuntu is going to be release soon and fedora and SuSE follows,
we're a little bit late.
But don't worry, we'll make a good release and won't release any
work-in-progress as "stable".
It's not possible to make a totally bug-free version, but I'll try to
make it good enough to be a quality release.

Some noticible changes:
Drag and drop files to folders in side-pane now works. :-)
RTL display problems are finally fixed.
Several bugs causing crashes are fixed.
Some minor UI gliches are fixed.
The annoying sorting bugs are fixed.

Please help the testing and get gdb backtrace if you can. A proper
backtrace can greatly help debugging.
Thanks!

French translation coordination

Hello french translators (and list) !

After the threads about Pootle and Transifex collisions, I suggest
having a little talk about how we coordinate french translation
projects in LXDE.

First of all, please indicate that you are involved in translating
LXDE in french and how you do it (Pootle, Transifex, direct git
commit, ...)

According to the different sources I can get, contributors are
Pootle :
Cilyan
pci21
Transifex :
gilir
ETrio
Wiki:
Bouska
fabrice
Burn2
Linukcs
Louk
and brother ?

Then, start arguing on the tool we will use (Pootle, Transifex, ...).

Best regards,

Cilyan

The above is the notification email you get when a new file is available
in Transifex for translation in your watch area. Is it possible to also
get a indication about how much work was added?
1 new string
2 fuzzy strings
4 complete
Or something like that.

Would be really good.

ofc it is but there is no synchronization between the tools at the moment.
I try to not add new translators in Pootle to languages that uses Tx as
tool - I hope the Tx people try the same at their end.

And you have communicated this with the two translators registred in
Pootle?

Are you subscribed? If not, that's the problem.

On using Transifex and Pootle

Hi translators and TEAMS
So we had our first Transifex <-> Pootle collission tonight.
In a language I _strongly_ encourage you to only use one tool nopt both at
the same time. If you choose to use both Pootle and Transifex please do
not translate the same files in both - divide the work among yourselves.

In a team:
1. Choose tools
2. Divide work
3. Agree on a workflow
4. Stick to it.

Do not.
1. Work independent without communication
2. Translate a component in both Transifex and Pootle at the same time
3. Forget to push "Commit to VCS" in Pootle and leave the mess to me to
solve.

Good to know things when working with the po files

Hi translators
In a seperate thread at the developer list I posted some information that
might be valuable for your work too. It's about quality assurance in PO
files.

If you are doing online translations in Pootle you should check the tools
under "review", there you find checks for acronyms, missing new lines and
strings without changes and so on.

For those working with the files in a git clone there are som interesting
tools to do sanity checks on the files before submitting them through Tx
or Pootle.

To just get the complete picture of the state of the translations run
    intltool-update -m
    intltool-update -r
in the po directory.

The -m
This will scan for files with translatable content in the source and match
those to the files in POTFILES.in, if missing they will be in STDOUT and a
file called missing and could be added to POTFILES.in.

The -r
This will resync all po files present with the pot file. Adding new
removing obsolete and marking updated strings as fuzzy ("review" needed).

If a file is not well formed (missing a \n in msgstr where there was a \n
in msgid for instance) a error will be raised. It checks for other errors
too.
The -r will however touch ALL files and bump the created timestamp and
should not be used if no changes are present, see below for automated
things.

The tools to use!
msgfmt or msgcat can be used to check the files.
msgfmt -c file.po
This will do the checks and outout the status in STDOUT.
If none, continue with next step. If any correct the issue.

A common notion is to use
msgcat file.po > file.po_copy
this will do checks and wrap lines at 80 and so on. The output is in
STDOUT so when without errors just catch it and direct it to the original
file).

These are my tips, there are THOUSANDS of switches and things to use if
you examine the tools carefully but that's not really the point here.

New component: LXPolkit

Hi translators
I have just added files for LXPolkit to Pootle (and will add the to Git in
just some minutes and then they are accessible in Transifex too).

It's just ten strings and they are all subject to changes becuase LXPolkit
is new and in no way in freeze.

Original string mistake

Hello,
While updating the french translation I noted a possible mistake in
the original strings :
libfm : ../src/gtk/fm-gtk-utils.c:385 : Only sytem administrator have
the permission to do this.
I believe it should be Only sytem administrator__s__ have...
By the way, French is up-to-date on Pootle.
