We had several okidata printers at CSI Donner when I worked there - we killed more trees with these little things than you could throw a rock at. Any who, there was a part on the tractor assembly that wore out on a regular basis. For us it was about every 6 to 8 months, and the maintenance guys would be changing that piece. Instead of a chain, or a gear assembly, it's just two rollers rubbing against each other to advance the paper and sooner or later they're a goner. That's when you get the slow creeping of the paper, and the creeping feeling you should have bought an Epson. :) -----Original Message----- From: owner-u2-users <at> listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:owner-u2-users <at> listserver.u2ug.org]On Behalf Of karlp <at> atsindustrial.com Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2006 14:40 To: u2-users <at> listserver.u2ug.org Subject: RE: [U2] Printer Creeping I oil the slidebars monthly with 3-in-1 oil. Subject: RE: [U2] Printer Creeping SOLVED
Okay, the printer is a creep... (creap?)... I took it in and after
removing just about everything, the service guy found the spring-lock that
holds the top gears against the bottom gears had come off. I guess that
paper jam last month was worse than I thought. In any case, they put it
back on and the printer is back to 'normal' and giving service as
expected.
I wish I had been onsite when the jam occurred. The person who cleared the
jam mentioned that the paper was in pretty tight...
Thanks for the suggestions. I think the principle mentioned that if it's
less than one line, it's mechanical and if it's a line-sized creep, it's
software. Very good rule of thumb. Thanks Jeff, for sending that along.
