Full-Time DBA opening in Salt Lake City

My company, Instructure, is looking to hire a full-time DBA in Salt Lake City, Utah. We've been making waves in the higher education space for the last two years by selling the first LMS which doesn't make teachers and students angry to use (they actually think it's pretty cool), and now we're moving on to do the same in the K-12 market. In other words, people love us and we're growing. Fast. Our future is bright, but we need more than shades to get there. That's where you come in.

We need somebody who can:

- Be part of an on-call team
- Have the knowledge to know how to respond to database problems at 3am
- Be able to automate processes so that there aren't database problems at 3am
- Be a point of contact for questions about databases, both from technical engineers and less technical members of the company
- Be on top of problems before they become problems

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge with:

- Linux
- Amazon Web Services
- MySQL
- Postgres
- Cassandra
- pgBouncer, or some other form of database pooling
- Puppet, or some other form of config management
- Zabbix, or some other from of resource monitoring and alerting
- Automation
- Performance turning
- No fear of learning The New Hotness, and no inclination to throw the baby out with the bath water
- Star Wars, Star Trek, the Lord of the Rings, or some other form of geek culture

Solid understanding of RDBM concepts and normalization
Solid understanding of what affects system performance

Experience tuning complex SQL queries involving sub-selects, views,
triggers, rules, and procedures
Comfortable with the Unix command line

Requirements

3 to 8 years experience managing production relational databases in 24×7 environment in PostgreSQL/EnterpriseDB/MySQL

Experience with writing SQL queries and performance optimization
Familiarity with database best practices, principles of database replication, backup, scalability and high availability
Understanding of basic database fundamentals: multi-version control, concurrency, transactions, indexing, locking, caching
Understanding of Unix environment with shell scripting

Nice to Have

Experience in using one or more monitoring solutions (Nagios, Cacti, etc)
Experience in scripting language like Perl or Python.
Experience with ETL and analytical tools is a big plus

Senior Database architect specializing on Postgres databases on multicore
servers for a large crossdomain implementation with multiple DBA both on
bare metal and VM. 

Postgres databases, a powerful, open source object-relational database
system which runs on all major operating systems, including Linux, UNIX
(AIX, BSD, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, Mac OS X, Solaris, Tru64), and Windows has
native programming interfaces for C/C++, Java, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby,
Tcl, ODBC, among others therefore experience with SQL, Tomcat, and Apache
preferred. 

*Clearance Level:* Top Secret Preferred - *US Citizen REQUIRED*

Job Roles & Responsibilities: 
· Primary responsibility is to implement and optimize SQL to achieve maximum
performance.
· Collecting, storing and accessing mission critical data from internet or
