Staff Engineer - Applications/Database Developer (Palo Alto, CA or Cambridge, MA)

 VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for Industry-standard computers, is seeking a senior
engineer to lead performance analysis and improvement of databases in Virtual Machine and NAS
environments. Person will be responsible for all end to end performance issues and lead a small team of
engineers working on the same product.

  Requirements:

  - Expertise in performance analysis and tuning of RDBMS, specifically OLTP databases
 - Development, performance analysis, and debugging experience around databases, systems software,
synchronization and locking
  - Experience with TPC-* benchmarks
  - Systems software knowledge, particularly linux
  - Automation/Scripting abilities in some scripting language
 - Need to be able to mentor more junior team members, and communicate very well with local and remote team members
  - Experience with flash/SSD, IO subsystems, and modern CPU architectures
  - 10+ years experience in the industry

  Nice to have:

  - Experience with open source DBMS like PostgreSQL or MySQL

Staff QA Engineer - Database (Palo Alto, CA or Cambridge, MA)

QA lead/manager to help build a strong QA team from scratch, and lead the same team. The QA team will be
targeted towards databases running in virtual machines in the vSphere infrastructure. Person will be
responsible for all aspects of quality of the product end to end, including management software. Person
should have a background in QA of databases or other system software, delivering complex system software
on time, and test automation frameworks.

  Requirements:

  - 10+ years experience in QA
  - Experience with QA of system software, preferably databases
  - Experience with QA of storage systems (NAS or SAN is fine)
  - Experience with vSphere APIs and virtualization a big plus
  - Be able to work in a startup-like environment, and build a QA team from scratch
  - Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a remote QA team
  - Automation and scripting with test automation frameworks
  - Need to be able to mentor and develop more junior QA engineers, including remote ones
  - Experience with Linux
