General Summary:

 

Our Information Technology (IT) department requires an experienced and knowledgeable PostgreS Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our database. Working alongside additional IT staff, programmers and executive staff, the DBA will be responsible for the support of an existing PostgreSQL 8.x production database in high transaction volume environments.

 

The ideal candidate must also be able to:

 

§        Troubleshoot database performance issues

§        Identify, optimize and tune bad queries

§        Convert logical design to physical design

§        Support online backups and PITR for production databases

§        Maintain standby databases

§        Migrate and upgrade databases

§        Refresh production databases using SAN snapshots

§        Gatekeeper for all the database changes

§        Run adhoc reports and maintain ongoing schedule reports

§        Write database checks for the alert monitoring system

 

Requirements:

 

To perform the essential duties of the PostgreS DBA, an individual must have:

 

§        Expert understanding of PostgreSQL, including experience with different database replication scenarios

§        In depth knowledge of database design, including logical and physical design, as well as SQL

§        Experience with PostgreS 8.x, Slony

§        Strong Unix/Linux skills

§        Experience with Python, SAN environments and multi-master clustering (HA) a major plus

§        Strong Unix shell scripting

§        Familiarity with PL/PGSQL procedure language

 

Education and Qualifications:

 

Previous work experience that can be demonstrated in the same or related field is a must.

Postgres Database Administrator

This is a dynamic role where DBA will be responsible for Database
Architecture, Database Design, Database Administration / Maintenance, and
Database Development of a large-scale Postgres 8.x database environment.

Design and Analysis
Conduct fact gathering sessions with customers.
Develop project estimates for database tasks.
Participate in group application design & architecture activities.
Provide technical assistance and guidance to engineering staff.

Responsibilities:

The database programmer is a key member of the team that supports the relational databases at SCHARP.  The database programmer is responsible for developing, implementing and tuning data models based on SCHARP's business requirements and writing code to allow easy access to this data.  S/he is also responsible for developing strategies for data synchronization, integrity and standardization, and for serving as a backup database administrator.

 

Major Duties:

  1. Analyze and translate business requirements into data models.

  2. Design, implement, test and document programs that interface with the relational database.

  3. Develop and ensure proper usage of data modeling, naming & description standards.

  4. Develop and apply strategies for data synchronization, update, and integrity.

  5. Guide development teams in system database design.

  6. Review and tuning of data model for performance improvement.

The ideal candidate will poses the following qualifications:

  • Two years experience data modeling.
