RESPONSIBILITIES:

Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers
Perform OS and hardware troubleshooting, as well as other kinds of problem resolution including coordinating repairs with vendors
Monitor system stability and performance
Installation and deployment of development, testing, staging and production databases
Creation and testing of backup plans and disaster recovery scenarios
Manage security of database servers and sensitive corporate data
Data maintenance, including creation of data loading scripts and transferring live data between production, testing, staging and development servers

THE REQUIREMENTS:
• 5+ years Linux system administration, including Red Hat and/or CentOS packages

• Experience with Apache configuration and management

• Experience interfacing front-end web pages to databases
• Experience dealing with tape and disk backup strategies, including recovery

• Experience supporting Postfix and Sendmail installations

• Experience with DNS and BIND management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

USEFUL SKILLS BUT NOT REQUIRED:
• Windows 2000 Server Administration

• Experience managing Nagios and Cacti, HP OpenView or Unicenter

• Experience with virtualized servers and SANs

• Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server 2000, PostgreSQL and/or MySql a BIG PLUS, including server setup, database backup and database recovery

• Software development or script programming in Java, Perl or PHP

THE CANDIDATE:
Minimum 5 years professional working experience on the Internet
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and proactively.
Ability to problem-solve and brainstorm in a team-oriented environment to solve business needs.
Ability to evaluate various software options and present the best solution to solve business needs.
Experience working with short-term deadlines with little supervision

Administering all aspects of Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 Server
Administering all aspects of Active Directory
Installation, configuration, and support of all Windows 2000 and 2003 servers
Installation, configuration, and support of all Windows 2000 Professional and XP desktops
Desktop support including upgrades, software, and peripherals for 150 users
Manage backups with Veritas Backup Exec
Configuration and support of DSL, T1, firewalls, VPN, routers, switches, and wide area network
Administration and support of 3Com NBX telephone systems and ACD
Coordinating with vendors for hardware/software extended support
Researching and suggesting new products and services
Installation and maintenance of network faxing
Remote support of nationally distributed offices

Facilities support including desk moves and setup

THE CANDIDATE:
Required Skills / Experience:

2+ years of administering Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003
2+ years of administering Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 server
2+ years of Linux administration
2+ years of desktop support
1+ years of PBX support
CCNA Certification
Network installation, cabling, and switches
Familiarity with standard protocols, TCP/IP, POP and IMAP clients, DSL, T1, PRI
Familiarity with server, firewall and desktop based Antivirus solutions

Personal Requirements:

Must have excellent ability to follow all details to completion and communicate problems in a very timely fashion

Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment

Data Systems Admin for Homeless Service Agency (Seattle, WA)

Hi.  Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) has an opening for its 
Data Systems Administrator position.  We are one of the largest 
providers of homeless services in the Pacific Northwest, and 
particularly focus on serving chronically homeless adults who are 
mentally ill or chemically addicted, or otherwise disabled or 
vulnerable.  We serve over 5,000 people a year, have approximately 300 
full-time staff, including 7 in the Information Services department.

DESC makes heavy use of free/open source software, and our main data 
systems all use Postgres.  We have developed a (PHP) web app called 
CHASERS that is used for agency management, and plan on releasing it as 
open source software.  There is some information (possibly a little out 
of date) at http://chasers.desc.org/.

I think DESC is an interesting place to work in IT, particularly if 
you're interested in postgres and open source stuff.  A link to our jobs
