General Summary
The Production Database Developer/ Administrator will be tasked with
ensuring that the database environment is designed and managed to meet the
demands for availability, performance and manageability.  Other functions
include administration, performance tuning, planning, optimization, data
modeling, development, and support.

 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Data model design and recommendations.
* Maintenance of database.
* Optimize database performance.
* Estimate database capacities.

Job Description:

Our client is currently seeking a consultant to assist them with the technical support engineering of their Postgres technical environment. The ideal candidate will be providing customer satisfaction through the delivery of high quality, in depth, responsive customer support. They will also be working with Engineering and QE on new product direction, testing, and support.

Required Experience:

Minimum 1 year PostgreSQL support experience

Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting databases on UNIX or Linux.

Knowledge and experience supporting relational databases (one of the following: Oracle, DB2 Sybase, Informix)

Experience with large file systems (100+ GB) on RAID arrays

Familiarity with PostgreSQL programming interfaces (ODBC, C/C++, Perl, PHP, Java, Python, TCL/TK)

Minimum 4 years of related practical experience in supporting software

Over 3 year's experience of technical phone support for external customers


Preferred Experience:

Networking knowledge

Experience with Remote Diagnostic tools (Web-EX, Go-To-Assist, Terminal Services)

SAN experience a plus

Sr Sales Engineer for PostgreSQL

General Description:

This position provides technical support to sales representatives in the office and in the field. Requires excellent technical and communication skills, prior technical experience with a major RDBMS vendor, customer problem resolution, and the ability to work well in a team setting. A comprehensive understanding of computer concepts and terminology is required. Proficiency in SQL and RDBMS application design is expected.

Principal Duties:

Works closely with sales representatives as a technical consultant of technologies during sales calls, demonstrations, and lab tests.

Answers technical questions and conducts demonstrations of products and new features to prospects and to various groups within existing customer accounts.

Provides technical descriptions and content for proposals in response to RFPs & RFQs.

Provides Proof of concept support and prototyping of applications on-site.

Possible Professional Services engagements to support client design and implementation support

Provides product installation problem resolution and support. Also, provides full technical training of products.

Gathers ongoing prospect/customer feedback, enhancement requests, and related information.

This position is based in the greater New YorkCity area and will require travel to customer locations.

Qualifications:

Education: Requires a bachelor's degree in a computer field or related discipline. Additional business related education is a plus.

Experience: Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in the computer field working with RDBMS products and applications. Candidate must also have at least two years of experience providing RDBMS support and explaining technology to customers and sales prospects or providing internal support to company employees.

Requires the ability to interact with many different types of individuals, including executives, engineers, analysts, and other computer and business professionals. A broad background and general knowledge of technical, administrative, and financial areas, and a basic understanding of related terms and business processes a plus. The successful candidate will have demonstrated self-confidence and self-reliance in conducting demonstrations, training, and experience working in Business-to-Business situations.

Applicant must have good communicative skills both verbally and in written form and the ability to effectively communicate ideas and properly describe problems and solutions. Critical thinking, reasoning, and problem solving ability is an essential part of this position. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Consultant Position in LA


I'm looking for a subcontractor for Varlena,LLC to
work in the LA area.  Subcontractor will work with
me to design and implement requirements.  It will
be about a 3 month gig.

	The Postgres SQL Administrator Consultant will review and assess the
	existing systems, processes and procedures that are currently running in
	production The Postgres SQL Consultant will make recommendations for
	enhancement and optimization. Then, the Postgres SQL Consultant will
	implement the recommended changes.
