this should be fixed in the next beta (Brad/Katherine/James - looks like this was only a bug on 8i)

RE: Enhancement Request

Hi Mike,

I had to bring up the screen to see what you meant...how about if I only make it add quotes for
CHAR,VARCHAR,VARCHAR2, etc fields (not number, not date...)

On the data tab of the SB for a table, when seting up a filter on the sort /
filter window, can there be an option (check box or something - maybe there
already is) to stop the filter to include quote marks around the data piece
of the statement. There all ready is an option to alphabetize the column
list on that window. I use that window a lot especially with date ranges
and have to always edit the results of the filter after it is generated to
pull out the quotes. Just a DBA being lazy again... :)

Thanks.

RE: Alphabetizing the table pick list in the Column Names Window

Try:
1. Open the schema browser
2. Press the "Filter" button on the Tables tab and make sure that the radio button says to sort by Table Name
Asc. Press OK.
3. Go back to a SQL Editor and bring up the Column Names window again. Is it still out of order?

By the way, what OS are you on?

Though I've selected check Options -> Editors -> Toad Insight -> Sort
pick list alphabetically, when I open the Column Names window, the
table and view pick lists aren't alphabetized. How can I get it to
alphabetize automatically?

I'm using 7.6.0.11.

Command line compare

Hello,

Did anyone tried the command line schema compare feature in 7.6? I tried it
in 7.5 and it didn't work? Just please tell me if you tried it and if it
worked.

Thank you,

RE: Enhancement Request

ok, in the next beta, it will only add quotes for columns of datatype like %CHAR%

...AND I made that window resizable (I can't stand non-resiable windows!)

problem with 7.6 session browser

The session browser now shows a + sign next to a job if parallel
processes are spawned. That is good. I can click on a plus sign to
expand it and show me all the parallel processes. This is also good.

The problem is that Toad is automatically expanding one of the plus
signs. This I don't like. I want to be in control. If I am monitoring
what is happening I want to be able to see all the jobs that are
running. If a plus sign is expanded by toad I have to go back up to
de-expand it.

Re: problem with 7.6 session browser

I'm glad you like this feature. It was one of the key pluses
over the kill/trace. Because a DBA must kill the parent and
not the children individually or partially. I agree with you
on the expansion issue. But Mark and I are at Irvine (HQ) next
week for meetings and Mark is currently working on TOAD for
SQL Server. So this might have to wait a short while.

RE: Hints with views oracle 7.3

Nothing personal either - but developers tend to blame the database for poor performance when really its badly designed or structured code.

To almost suggest that relational databases (I think you'll find they're here to stay) are the cause of slow performance due to the number of tables that need to be joined is ridiculous. If you are joining more than 5 tables because you can't be bothered to structure code into suitable loops and are selecting your record sets with conditions that *could* cause the optimizer to have to join the entire tables before it can return your selection then you're flying by the seat of your pants with your application performance.

As Steve says the 'fix' you think you so cleverly desgined over your test database could easily go tits up over the production mix of data.

So the hint is - don't use hints...then you can avoid the worries of where they are supported and where they aren't. (This hint is limited to the use of this email only - it may not work on other emails containing different data ;-) )

Nothing personal but that's rubbish and a myth.  Providing statistics are
up to date then the optimiser will work perfectly well.

Hints are just a developers way of making sure they have a job in years
to come so that they can "fix" the code that's now slow because the data
has changed and the existing hint is no longer the right one!

Bug in SQL-Editor

SQL-editor:
Script = 'select to_char (:try, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI') from dual'

As I run the script a variables message box pops up. As I change the
type of variable 'try' from 'String' to 'Date' the error
'Access violation at address 00405AA4 in module 'TOAD.exe'. Read of
address 33302D2D' comes up.

Next I fill in '01-01-03 12:45:00' as content of the variable.

As I run the script <F5> the result is:

select to_char (:try, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI') from dual
TO_CHAR(:TRY,'DD-MON-YYYYHH24:
------------------------------
01-JAN-2003 12:45
1 row selected

Ans when I Execute All SQL <F9> the result is:
'01-JAN-2003 00:00'
