Re: Problems with thumbnails in DSpace 1.5.1 JSPUI

Hi,

I want to help, but my english not good. Hope you understand...^^

1. after you do dspace/bin/filter-media, there is a bitstream with
description Generated Branded Preview...?

2. I think there is something missing in
http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-tech-5NWGOfrQmneRv+LV9MX5uipxlwaOVQ5f <at> public.gmane.org/msg02457.html.
you need to setting your item preview and media filter in dspace.cfg too.

#### Settings for Item Preview ####

webui.preview.enabled = true
webui.preview.dc = rights

#### Media Filter / Format Filter plugins (through PluginManager) ####
# Media/Format Filters help to full-text index content or
# perform automated format conversions

#Names of the enabled MediaFilter or FormatFilter plugins
#add branded preview JPEG in the filter.plugins
filter.plugins = PDF Text Extractor, HTML Text Extractor, \
Word Text Extractor, JPEG Thumbnail, \
                                 Branded Preview JPEG

Optional: what I use in filter.plugins is like example below, because I just
want to filter word and picture.
filter.plugins = Word Text Extractor, JPEG Thumbnail, \

New to Dspace

Hello Everyone,

I need your help on this, if you please.

I am new to Dspace, and I have been asked by my director to install Dspace as our IR system.
I read the Dspace Manual but I still have one main question which I couldn't find an answer for yet. This question is our first step on installing the software.

My question is the following:

Could we install dspace on 2 different servers ? One for the Database (which we prefer it to be ORACLE) and the other one for Apache and other things.

If you have any document that will help me on this installation scenario it will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Imad Musleh

Error in XMLUI when accessing some pages

Hey,

could you try to take a look at this ticket about the xmlui. You can
browse the site and login, but if you try to register, click submit then
you get the errors in the ticket.

http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-444

It might have something to do with the latest version im using (Fedora
12 other people with Ubuntu have the same problem) since almost the same
configuration are running on a RedHat Enterprise 5.

Re: Problems with thumbnails in DSpace 1.5.1 JSPUI

Hi Vinsenso,

Thank you a lot for the information provided, but it doesn't work ...

I have changed the configuration as you said and execute filter-media again.
Now preview.jpg files are generated, but this files are shown in the item page:

http://repositori.uji.es/jspui/handle/10234/1246

The previous page, when you browse the collection, remains without the
proper thumbnail :(

http://repositori.uji.es/jspui/handle/10234/415/browse?type=title&submit_browse=Title

Any ideas?

Thanks again for your help :)

fire up dspace for the first time : arg ...

Hi there,

I just installed dspace on Debian. I'm in the chapter 3.3.3 of the
dspace manual, parts 9, 10, 11.
I made a copy of webapps with the tomcat space. I do a restart of
tomcat, then i have the following message in the logs :

========
DSpace has failed to initialize, during stage 2. Error while attempting
to read the
DSpace configuration file (Path:
'/var/...some_directories.../dspace/config/dspace.cfg').
This has likely occurred because either the file does not exist, or it's
permissions
are set incorrectly, or the path to the configuration file is incorrect.
The path to
the DSpace configuration file is stored in a context variable,
'dspace-config', in
either the local servlet or global context.
========

But as the tomcat user i can read the file dspace.cfg given in the log.
I don't understand what tomcat can't access.
Any help is welcome.

Re: Error in XMLUI when accessing some pages

I have now found the problem for my RedHat Fedora 12 installation.
Inside the file "/etc/tomcat5/tomcat5.conf" is a line that overrides
JAVA_HOME. Uncomment it or change the path to the corrrect one - SUN Java.

The Tomcat 5 im using, is the default one that comes with Fedora 12. I
have updated the ticket in Jira.

Other users are having this problem too (on Ubuntu), can you confirm if
this is/was your problem too?

Thanks,
Tonny

Hey,

could you try to take a look at this ticket about the xmlui. You can
browse the site and login, but if you try to register, click submit then
you get the errors in the ticket.

http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-444

It might have something to do with the latest version im using (Fedora
12 other people with Ubuntu have the same problem) since almost the same
configuration are running on a RedHat Enterprise 5.

I found in archives this "solution" :
http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-tech-5NWGOfrQmneRv+LV9MX5uipxlwaOVQ5f <at> public.gmane.org/msg09158.html

To switch off security items of tomcat can not be a solution for
production server.
I don't know tomcat. If someone have a document explaining the security
model clearly like the cristal, URL is welcome.

Best regards,

Re: Help with SRW/U installation

What error are you getting?

Have you looked in the tomcat log for error messages?

Hi there,

I have try step by step the installation of SRW on dSpace 1.5 and have no luck at all.

I can make the test database works, but no success with dSpace.

I have find a lot on the list and the web and as I see the only success stories are related the the SRW.zip installation method. But the link on http://dspace-sandbox.googlecode.com/svn/modules/dspace-srw/trunk/docs/Installation.html is just a 404.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks,

Yes, you should be able to do that. I've done it using PostgreSQL.
You should only need to adjust the 'db.url' found in config/dspace.cfg
to point to the database server instead of 'localhost'. So, if you
install DSpace on (let us say) ir.example.com, using a PostgreSQL
database named 'irdb', and your DBMS is running on dbms.example.com
then you might configure:

  db.url = jdbc:postgresql://dbms.example.com:5432/irdb

I've not yet used Oracle, so I hesitate to provide an example of that,
but if you are familiar with Oracle then you should be able to work
out the corresponding adjustments to db.url. No other changes to
DSpace should be required.

Of course you need to ensure that your DBMS is configured to permit
access to the requested database from the requesting host using the
configured credentials (db.username, db.password), and that any
firewalls permit the packets to pass between the two hosts.
