[Dbworld] Last CFP: miproBIS - Business Intelligent Systems

CALL FOR PAPERS

International Conference on BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS (miproBIS)

(in conjunction with 33rd International Convention MIPRO)

May 24 – 28, 2010
Opatija, Adriatic Coast, Croatia

The term Business intelligence (BI) refers to applications and technologies used to gather, provide
access to, and analyze data and information about company operations in order to help them to have a more
comprehensive knowledge of the factors affecting their business. BI systems usually lean on data
warehouses (DWs) to guarantee an easy and quick access to information. The widespread deployment of
these systems is making users more and more demanding in terms of applications, types of analysis and
performances; on the other hand ten years of research in the data warehousing field paved the way for new
applications that goes beyond traditional OLAP analysis and concern real-time, spatiotemporal as well
as distributed data. Furthermore, BI research is now dealing with the integration of BI with Corporate
Performance Management (CPM), balanced scorecards, and Business Process Management (BPM).

Like the previous successful editions, miproBIS 2010 provides an international forum where both
researchers and practitioners can share their findings and practical experiences in the field of BI. In
particular, besides submissions in traditional DW and OLAP topics, we encourage papers concerning
emerging research topics and applications in the DW, OLAP and BI area.

The SCOPE of the conference includes, but is not limited to:

- Data warehouse design and schema evolution
- Multidimensional modelling and queries
- Data warehousing consistency and quality
- Online Analytical Processing (OLAP)

[Dbworld] Last CFP - Special Issue on Management and Engineering of Process-Aware Information Systems

Special Issue of Information Systems on "Management and Engineering of
Process-Aware Information Systems".

Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS) are at the heart of an ongoing
trend that has seen the attention of information systems engineers and
managers shift from data and objects to the processes that an
information system is intended to support, enable or enact. This trend
has resulted in a myriad of methods and tools to support the analysis,
design, implementation, execution and maintenance of information systems
based on explicit process models.

PAIS are complex systems in which managerial and organizational aspects
are often entangled with system analysis, design and implementation
aspects. An integrated understanding of these complementary aspects is
essential to reap the potential benefits of PAIS. However, management
and engineering aspects of PAIS have to date mostly been studied
separately. On the one hand, the information systems engineering
community has concentrated on PAIS analysis, design and implementation,
using for example case handling systems, workflow technology, business
process management systems or service-oriented architectures. On the
other hand, the information systems management community has focused on
the impact of information systems technology to support process-oriented
organizations, or the management of cultural and organizational change
to enable process improvement. Overall these research streams have
remained isolated from one another, and no studies exist that fully
embrace the holistic and boundary-spanning nature of PAIS.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a forum to bridge the
viewpoints of the information systems engineering community and the
information systems management community, as it pertains to PAIS. The

Deadline for submissions (full papers and posters): March 8th, 2010
Notification of acceptance: April 19th, 2010
Camera ready due: May 17th, 2010

MOTIVATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Over the past decades, we have seen a revolution in the way science and engineering has been conducted.
Specially, computation became an established third brand of science alongside theory and experiment.
Scientists now need to access and exploit computational resources and databases that are
geographically distributed through the use of high speed networks. Those resources must be modeled and
managed in a similar way we model software development and data through software engineering processes
and database techniques. In order to attack the next generation of scientific problems,
multidisciplinary and distributed teams of scientists need to collaborate to make progress on these new challenges.

Current advances in Software Engineering and Database research, including ontologies, scientific
process/workflow modeling, semantic web services, software component management, grid computing,
resource modeling, process and data provenance, data curation, among others can help to address these

[Dbworld] Final CFP: Special Issue on E-Health: Accessing Knowledge for Global Health

Final Call for Papers

Knowledge Management & E-Learning: An International Journal (KM&EL)

Special Issue on "E-Health: Accessing Knowledge for Global Health"

Guest Editor

Patricia A. Abbott, PhD, RN

Director, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Knowledge Management;
Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Nursing
Baltimore, MD   USA

This special issue of the KM&EL international journal is dedicated to coverage of knowledge management
and information dissemination for health in underserved areas. Numerous studies have demonstrated the
high cost, in both financial and humanistic terms, of a lack of access to current healthcare knowledge.
Many international settings are using textbooks that are seriously outdated, and practicing in ways
that have been proven to be ineffective and/or dangerous. At the same time, we are seeing an explosion of
information and communication technologies (ICT) that are reaching even the most remote corners of the
globe. As these two trends collide, we are seeing tremendous innovation and application of KM techniques
and ICT utilization to "reach and teach" in remote communities around the world. Indeed, Deaton(2004)
states that "The health and life expectancy of the vast majority of mankind, whether they live in rich or
poor countries, depends on ideas, techniques, and the!
 rapies developed elsewhere, so that it is the spread of knowledge that is the fundamental determinant of
population health."

[Dbworld] CFP: KES2010 - Invited Session - Knowledge Based Automated Software Engineering

KES2010
14th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent
Information & Engineering Systems
=====================================================
Cardiff, Wales, UK
September 8-10, 2010
=====================================================

Invited Session Title:

Knowledge-Based Automated Software Engineering

=====================================================

Invited Session Chairs:

Ivan Stanev Director Development and Methodology Sirma ITT JSC Bulgaria
Katalina Grigorova Professor University of Ruse Bulgaria
=====================================================

Description:

The development process of big information systems is lower effective and higher resource consuming than
the software developer expectations. Most of widely disseminated software engineering methods and
tools used through the whole life cycle in this process are characterised with low level of process
automation, insufficient component reusability, and bad final product flexibility.

The software development process efficiency can be improved using (1) non-formal (insufficient, and
incomplete) business model specification instruments, (2) automated verification and modification
of non-formal specifications based on predefined standardised knowledge bases both for domain and IT
areas, (3) direct automated generation of final software product from verified business model, and (4)
incorporation of a set of components for real time monitoring and tuning in the generated software.

=====================================================

Scope:

* Methods and/or tools for specification, verification, and management of predefined standardised
knowledge bases (such as ontologies, knowledge primitive repositories, process and service
repositories, infrastructure repositories, etc) both for domain and IT areas.
* Methods and/or tools for non-formal business model specifications (based on UML, SysML, BPMN, natural
language specifications, 2D/3D specifications, queries by example, etc) and algorithms for its
verification and completeness.
* Methods and/or tools for automated generation of software products from business models based on
techniques such as Service Oriented Architectures, GRID, etc.
* Methods and/or tools for automated real time monitoring and tuning of generated software products.
* Other related to the area topics.

=====================================================

Submission

All Invited Session papers should be submitted through PROSE online paper submission system. (PROSE
submission system will open soon.) Please follow the instructions at the KES 2010 website.
