CALL FOR PAPERS
29th ACM SIGMOD–SIGACT–SIGART Symposium on
PRINCIPLES OF DATABASE SYSTEMS (PODS 2010)
June 7–June 9, 2010, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

The PODS symposium series, held in conjunction with the SIGMOD conference series, provides a premier
annual forum for the communication of new advances in the theoretical foundations of database systems.
For the 29th symposium, original research papers providing new theoretical insights in the
specification, design, or implementation of data-management systems and tools are called for. We
especially welcome papers addressing such insights in emerging database environments and
applications. Topics that fit the interests of the symposium include the following (as they pertain to databases):

   languages for semi-structured data (e.g. XML and RDF);
   search query languages (including techniques from information retrieval);
   distributed and parallel aspects of databases (including cloud computing);
   dynamic aspects of databases (updates, views, real-time and sensor data, approximate query answering,
data streams);
   incompleteness, inconsistency, and uncertainty in databases;
   schema and query extraction;
   data integration;
   data exchange;
   provenance;
   workflows;
   metadata management;
   meta-querying;
   semantic-Web data and ontologies;
   data mining and machine learning techniques for databases;

[Dbworld] [Extended Deadline - 4 days] CFP: The First WWW 2011 Warm Up Workshop, Jan 7, 2010, Kolkata, India

Please accept our apologies for cross-posting.

The First WWW 2011 Warm Up Workshop
January 7, 2010, Kolkata, India
http://research.ihost.com/www2011/index.html

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Starting with the first one held at CERN in 1994 (http://www94.web.cern.ch/WWW94/), the International
World Wide Web (WWW) Conferences constitute a series of conferences, usually taking place in May of every
year. It is a global event bringing together key researchers, innovators, decision-makers,
technologists, businesses, and standards bodies that are helping define the shape of the Web. Since its
inception in 1994, the WWW conference series has become the de-facto international venue for
discussions on the evolution of the Web over the coming years.

The location varies year to year, covering Asia, Europe, or North America. The conference provides a
healthy mixture of contributions from academia and industry. Apart from the core conference consisting
of technical research tracks, other attractions of the event include tutorials, workshops, and a
separate Developers' Day. The event usually spreads over 5 days. The International World Wide Web
Conference Committee (IW3C2), is responsible for the series, with a different conference organizer
every year.

This prestigious conference is scheduled to come to India in 2011 and will be held from 28th March to 1st
April in Hyderabad, India. The First WWW 2011 Warm Up Workshop is the first one of a series of technical
events leading up to the WWW 2011 Conference. The aim of the series is to bring together researchers, and
practitioners from all over India and neighboring regions to increase awareness about the WWW series of
conferences and its various tracks. Participants will get an opportunity share their knowledge about
Web and related technologies and to prepare together for participation in WWW 2011.

The participants of the first (and subsequent) workshops shall get the benefit of listening to

[Dbworld] Ph.D. Positions at Aalborg University, Denmark

Center for Data-Intensive Systems, Daisy (http://daisy.aau.dk/), has
several fully funded Ph.D. positions available.

The positions concern research in data management technologies that
aim to allow energy distribution infrastructures to manage higher
amounts of renewable energy and to better balance supply and demand.
The production of renewable energy depends on external factors such as
wind and sunlight. Hence, available energy from renewable sources can
only be predicted, not planned, This renders it challenging for energy
distributors to efficiently accommodate renewable energy sources.

The research will explore the use of so-called micro requests for
controlling demand and supply at the level of individual households.
The research calls for advanced, distributed aggregation of requests
as well as novel forecasting techniques. Key technology areas include:
cloud and distributed computing, real-time data warehousing, sensor
and stream data management, indexing, and query processing.

With more than 20 members, Daisy provides a very active research
environment that is well integrated into the global database research
community. Aalborg is the center of a beautiful region of Denmark,
with nice beaches, unique nature, and clean air.

The monthly salary is approximately DKK 24,000 before taxes (EUR 1
approximately equals DKK 7.5).

Key qualifications needed:

An M.S. in Computer Science or a closely related field from a
recognized institution and with excellent results. The ideal candidate

contributions in multimedia semantic computing, with a focus on how to apply the semantic technologies
to the acquisition, generation, storage, processing, and retrieval of large-scale multimedia
information. A main goal of MUST is to address emerging research challenges in Semantic Multimedia and to
help reducing the Semantic Gap between low-level content descriptions of multimedia and the semantics
in high-level human interpretations of audiovisual media. Semantic Web and multimedia community
researchers are encouraged to join the workshop to benefit from the presentation of results from
multimedia based research, which demonstrate important multimedia applications which could be
enhanced by Sema
 ntic Web technologies.
MUST'10 will be held in conjunction with FutureTech 2010, in Busan, Korea, 21-23 May 2010.

MUST'10 encourages a multidisciplinary perspective and welcomes papers that address challenges of
multimedia in general or in the context of specific domains.
