1. Scope

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been around for more than half a century. It is only in recent
years that this technology has begun to attract a lot of attention, due to the convergence of lower cost and
increased capabilities of RFID tags. Currently, RFID is emerging as an important technology for
revolutionizing a wide range of applications including supply chain management, retail,
anti-counterfeiting, baggage handling, and healthcare. Many organizations are planning or have
already exploited RFID in their main operations to take advantage of the potential of more automation,
efficient business processes, and inventory visibility. While RFID provides promising benefits such
as inventory visibility and business process automation, significant challenges on information
systems and technologies need to be overcome before these benefits can be realized.

This special issue will present the latest developments, trends, industrial applications, and research
challenges for RFID technology. This issue will explore how organizations can gain competitive
advantages by applying RFID technology in real-world settings. Submissions on studies which
demonstrate RFID
techniques for specific application problems are encouraged. Survey articles that emphasize research
and application in a particular RFID domain are welcomed. Research areas of relevance would therefore
include, but not only limited to, the following topics:

[Dbworld] 2nd CFP: WAMIS 2010 The 6th International Symposium on Web and Mobile Information Services

CALL FOR PAPERS
WAMIS 2010: The 6th International Symposium on Web and Mobile Information Services
http://www.cs.adelaide.edu.au/~wamis2010

In conjunction with the 24th IEEE AINA Conference
http://www.aina-conference.org/2010

APRIL 25th to 27th, 2010
Perth, Australia

**Best papers from WAMIS 2010 will be considered for further publication of extended version in a
forthcoming Special issue of the World Wide Web Journal (Springer).**

Advances in the Web and mobile technologies offer new and exciting services to users in various domains
such as e-business, healthcare, entertainment, and scientific activities. With the advances in mobile
technologies, Web also gets richer in its contents and usability. In addition to its widespread
usability in the e-commerce, education, and media, it has established its roots in exchanging and
sharing information in social communities. For example, user-generated contents in the social
networks have transformed the Web into a new era or the Web2.0 - these contents comprise a wealth of
information often involving multimedia data such as audio, video, pictures and blogs.

These new developments however introduce many new challenging problems to researchers. For example, one
of the major issues is to deal with the resource scarcity in mobile environment. Though mobile devices and
wireless networks are improving their resources, they are still far behind the wired networks and
desktop PCs in terms of bandwidth, memory, processing speed and battery powers. The other major
challenge is how to effectively build mobile systems that can dynamically adjust its behavior reacting
to the changes in location, context, and variation in network bandwidth.

[Dbworld] Deadline extension - Special Issue Information Systems "Semantic Integration of Data, Multimedia"

Call for Papers: Special Issue of Information Systems
"Semantic Integration of Data, Multimedia, and Services"

------------------------------------------------------

Deadline extension:
Manuscripts due: October 31 2009
Notification of acceptance: January 15 2010
Final revised manuscript: April 15 2010

------------------------------------------------------

Guest Editors:
Carlo Batini (U. of Milan "Bicocca")
Domenico Beneventano (U. of Modena and Reggio Emilia)
Sonia Bergamaschi (U. of Modena and Reggio Emilia)
Tiziana Catarci (Sapienza - U. of Rome)

Research on structured data, multimedia, and services has involved non-overlapping communities.
However, from a user perspective, the three kinds of information should behave and be accessed
similarly. This has not been the case, leading to a situation in which a user has to deal with different
tools in order to gain a complete knowledge about a domain. There is no integrated view comprising data,
multimedia and services retrieved by the specific tools that is automatically computed.

Techniques for managing data, multimedia, and services with a unified approach could benefit large
communities of users. As a notable example, let us consider the Internet, where searching for a certain
topic piecemeal returns heterogeneous results comprising unstructured text, deep web data sources,
web services, images and other multimedia files. In this scenario, a unified approach for dealing with
different kinds of information may allow cross searches and different starting points / results in the
searching processes.

[Dbworld] ACM International Symposium on Biocomputing (ISB 2010)- Second Call For Papers

*** Apologies if you received multiple postings of this Call for Papers ***

International Symposium on Biocomputing (ISB 2010) – Call for Papers
15 – 17 February 2010, Calicut, Kerala, India
http://www.isb2010.org

CALL FOR PAPERS

ISB 2010
The last decade has witnessed a spurt in life science research with the advent of high throughput
instrumentation technologies. The staggering volume of data generated from different “omics”
experiments has stymied integration of experimental procedures and computational activities. In the
present global scientific arena, bioinformatics has thus evolved as a complementary tool to
biologists, assisting in interpretation of experimental data and also providing important leads for
further experimental research.

The International Symposium on Biocomputing, in cooperation with the Association of Computing
Machinery (ACM), invites researchers from computer science, life science and statistics areas to a
common forum for exchanging ideas/hypotheses, to promote future collaborations towards the
development of improved and highly efficient bioinformatics tools. The symposium is also expected to
witness the initiation of multidisciplinary interactions, which will eventually blur the boundaries
between in vivo, in vitro and in silico analytical procedures and thus help to gain deeper understanding
of macromolecular interactions, which ultimately define any biological system.

PAPERS
Original, unpublished papers are invited in the following research areas, but not restricted to:
• Gene Annotation and Sequence Analysis/ Alignment/ Pattern Searches
• Modeling Approaches and Protein Structure Prediction
• Comparative Genomics and Phylogenetics
• Proteomics/ Transcriptomics/ Systems Biology and Quantitative Bioanalysis

NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINE 15th October 2009

OVERVIEW
========
Services Science is not a cosmetic change of existing things. Introduced by IBM in 2002, it has now emerged
and matured in a true trans-disciplinary atmosphere. Encompassing disciplines not only in management
and engineering, it also draws from disciplines such as social and cognitive sciences, law, ethics,

building a concrete framework for trans-disciplinary purposes.

Thus “service” must be considered in this conference with its multiple facets: economic,
organizational, social, collective, ontological, regulatory, secure, etc. and also, of course,
implemented by means of informatics. Sometimes it is referred to as information services to distinguish
its restricted meanings in various disciplines like Economy or Informatics.

The goal of this first conference is to build upon this growing community to further study and understand
