[Dbworld] Last CFP: 11th International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009)

DEADLINES EXTENDED: Due to numerous requests, the abstract and paper submission deadlines of DaWaK 2009
are extended by 2 weeks until April 3, and April 10, respectively.
These are hard deadlines and no more extensions will be given.

Call for Papers: 11th International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009)
Linz, Austria. Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, 2009
http://www.dexa.org/dawak

Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery has been widely accepted as a key technology for enterprises and
organisations
to improve their abilities in data analysis, decision support, and the automatic extraction of knowledge
from data.
With the exponentially growing amount of information to be included in the decision making process, the
data to be
considered becomes more and more complex in both structure and semantics. Consequently, the process of
retrieval and
knowledge discovery from this huge amount of heterogeneous complex data builds the litmus-test for the
research in the area.
During the past years, the International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK)
has become one
of the most important international scientific events to bring together researchers, developers and
practitioners to
discuss latest research issues and experiences in developing and deploying data warehousing and
knowledge discovery
systems, applications, and solutions. This year’s conference (DaWaK 2009), builds on this tradition of
facilitating
the cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas, experience and potential research directions. DaWaK 2009
seeks to
introduce innovative principles, methods, algorithms and solutions to challenging problems faced in
the development of

Qualitative Spatio-Temporal Representation and Reasoning:
Trends and Future Directions

A book edited by Dr. Shyamanta M. Hazarika, Tezpur University, India

Introduction
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning is fast becoming an area of
increased focus within Computer Science research. While encoding
knowledge, one needs to appreciate that everyday spatial reasoning is
driven through qualitative abstractions rather than complete quantitative
knowledge a priori. This has led to the emerging discipline of Qualitative
Spatial Information Theory within Artificial Intelligence.
Space and time are inextricably linked. Reasoning about space often
involves reasoning about change in spatial configurations. Qualitative
Spatial Information Theory encompasses spatial as well as temporal
representation and reasoning. Qualitative spatio-temporal representation
and reasoning in general and formalizing spatial change in particular is
increasing becoming a core issue within Mobile Computing, GIS / Spatial
Information Systems, Databases, Computer Vision as well as Knowledge
Discovery and Data Mining. The present book will give an overview of
current research in Qualitative Spatio-Temporal Representation and

[Dbworld] CfP WI/IAT'09 Wks on Explicit Knowledge Models for Web Personalization and Adaptation

======================================================================

     2nd CALL FOR PAPERS

WI/IAT'09 Workshop on Explicit Knowledge Models for
     Web Personalization and Adaptation

     September, 15, 2009 - Milano, Italy
     http://ls13-www.cs.uni-dortmund.de/kmwp09/
     Submission Deadline: April 30, 2009

======================================================================
In personalized web applications, different strategies for implementing
the desired adaptive behavior are possible. Personalization can either be
achieved by self-adaptation and learning based strategies, or through the
interpretation of explicit knowledge models (for instance personalization
rules or constraints).

Learning-based and collaborative approaches are most widely used,
especially in the Web context. However, in some domains the second
option is more appropriate, for instance when initially not enough
interaction data is available for learning, when the desired personalized
behavior is too complex to be learned or when the personalization
behaviour needs to be exhaustively validated.

In the past, several forms of describing (or modeling) knowledge required
for personalizing applications along the dimensions content, presentation,
and structure have been proposed. Common techniques include rule-based
systems, knowledge-based selection of predefined personalization
strategies, finite-state automata and dialogue grammars for modeling

-----------------------------------------------------
         Submission deadline: June 1st 2009
-----------------------------------------------------

The aim of the workshop on Management of Uncertain Data
is to provide a forum to share original ideas as well as
research results and practical development experiences
among researchers and application developers. In this
workshop we want to explore the various aspects of
uncertainty in data as well as techniques how to handle
them in the domain of databases. In particular, we are
interested in discussing the different kinds of uncertainty,
different models for uncertainty representation in databases,
techniques for querying and updating data involving uncertainty,
and the varying application areas in which handling uncertain
data is involved.

Flexible Database and Information Systems Technology
(FlexDBIST-09)

Linz, Austria, August 31 - September 4, 2009

Aim and Scope
-------------

Information systems are nowadays designed to deal with an incredible amount of data,
concerning every aspect of real life. Data are managed by heterogeneous (ibrid)
systems, i.e. systems employing diversified techniques matured in distinct disciplines such as
information retrieval, data bases, spatial and geographical databases; concern heterogeneous
application domains from the most specialistic ones to the general purpose,
are structured in
heterogeneous data formats and hetherogeneous media; furthermore, distributed and semi-structured
(XML) or unstructured (textual) documents and geographic data are becoming important data sources for
enterprises and organizations .
Enterprises and organizations need to deal with such heterogeneous and
often very large volumes of data, which may also be uncertain, imprecise

[Dbworld] Final CFP (deadline extended Apr 8) KDDSB09: Knowledge Discovery and Decision Systems in Biomedicine

----------------------------------------------------------------------
FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS (submission deadline extended: April 8, 2009)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

KDDSB09: Special Track on Knowledge Discovery and Decision Systems in Biomedicine (http://www.unicampus.it/KDDSB09/)

at IEEE CBMS 2009: 22th IEEE International Symposium on COMPUTER-BASED MEDICAL SYSTEMS

August 3-4, 2009, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The vast amount of data generated by biomedical devices or retrieved from archives motivates the
development of tools that are able to effectively and
efficiently handle, analyse and make use of this data.

On the one side, data mining has become a popular and effective way of discovering new knowledge from large
and complex data sets, and particularly,
medical data sets. Advances in data mining research and technology have made it possible to solve many
interesting problems in medical diagnostics and
healthcare.

On the other side, computer-based systems supporting the medical decisions have attracted many research
efforts. These systems can pursue different
objectives, such as pre-selecting the cases to be examined, serving as a second reader or working as a tool
for training and education of specialized
medical personnel.
Currently, the development of versatile systems applicable to different working scenarios is a major
issue. Indeed, they call for careful design of
data processing methods as wells as the definition of decision rules. To the same extent, the definition of
performance evaluation criteria is
