[Dbworld] IWSNE 2009 Call for Papers

============================================================================
IWSNE 2009 Call for Papers
The 2nd International Workshop on Sensor Network Engineering (IWSNE'09)
co-located with the 5th IEEE/ACM International Conference on
Distributed Computing In Sensor Systems (DCOSS'09),
June 8th-10th (workshop day: June 10th), Marina Del Rey, CA, USA
http://www.itm.uni-luebeck.de/events/iwsne09/
============================================================================

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are heterogeneous networks that comprise
tiny, resource-constraint sensor nodes, gateways and backend systems.
Embedded into the environment, sensor nodes measure ambient parameters
such as temperature, motion, etc. and gateways provide the integration
with traditional networks while backend systems process and visualize
received data. Application development for WSNs is complex as it unites
the challenges of distributed applications and embedded programming. In
addition, heterogeneity, unpredictable environmental influences and the
size of the networks further complicate this situation.

To master these issues, an engineering approach to all phases of a
sensor network's life cycle is necessary. Developers and application
providers require powerful development support including IDEs as well as
debugging, simulation and visualization tools to develop, test,
optimize, and deploy their algorithms, applications and protocols.
Today, many of these issues are still unsolved; at least an integrated
approach is missing.

Particular topics of interest for papers to be submitted include, but
are not limited to:

Track on

Database Technologies and Applications: Share and Explore (DTA-2009)

2nd International Computer Science and Technology

Conference (ICSTC-2009)

San Diego, California, USA,

June 30 – July 1, 2009

The DTA-2009 track at 2nd International Computer Science and Technology Conference (ICSTC-2009) provides a premier forum for sharing and exchanging research and results to problems encountered in today’s information society. The focus of this track is on pertinent issues and industry trends that are important for organizations. The goal of the Database Technology and Application (DTA-2009) track is to gather researchers and application developers from a wide range of database related areas and to advance the state of the art in the field and its various real world applications. The sessions during this track will allow database technology leaders, academics and consultants an opportunity to share and explore ideas and strategies that impact us all and to “bridge the gap” between academia and business as well as provide opportunities for technical collaboration among database researchers around the globe.

DTA-2009 will provide an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of database in general. In addition, the track will publish select high quality papers in journals. Furthermore, we expect that the track and its publications will be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in this important area.

The track is also intended as a forum for PhD students working in the research area of database and application. The track aims at facilitating interactions among Ph.D. students and at stimulating feedback from more experienced researchers on the respective Ph.D. thesis topics. We encourage students at all stages of their Ph.D. studies to submit papers to this track. In particular, this includes students who are just starting their research and who would like to receive feedback on their research ideas and plan. The paper should clearly describe a problem, explain why it is important, detail what the existing solutions are and why they are not sufficient, and give some indication of new solutions the student is pursuing. There should be enough substance to provide discussion, but the work does not need to be complete. The submission should also indicate the expected duration of the Ph.D. thesis and the current stage of the work.

The DTA-2009 Track Program Committee solicits submissions covering innovative commercial implementations or applications of database or information management technology, and experience in applying recent research advances to practical situations. Acceptance of papers will be based primarily on originality, significance and quality of contribution and on recommendations of the reviewers. Authors are invited to submit papers in all areas of database technology and application but not limited to those listed below.

  • Data integration, interoperability, and metadata
  • Systems, platforms, middleware, applications, and experiences
  • Industrial-strength systems based on database technology
  • Application of database technology to new areas or data types
  • New combinations of database technology with other technologies for special needs
  • Reporting of pitfalls, challenges, and difficulties
  • Parallel and Distributed databases.
  • Spatial and Temporal Database
  • Fraud Detection

Examples of application areas for database technology include, but are not limited to:

[Dbworld] Deadline Extension: SWDMNSS 2009

--------------------------------------------------
***** EXTENDED DEADLINE ***** March 10, 2009 *****
--------------------------------------------------

3rd International Workshop on SensorWebs, Databases and Mining
in Networked Sensing Systems (SWDMNSS 2009)

in conjunction with the 6th International Conference
on Networked Sensing Systems (INSS 2009)

              http://www.osoite.jp/SWDMNSS09/

                      June 19, 2009
        Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA

The development and deployment of sensor networking technologies has
led to the emergence of an Internet-wide infrastructure for networked
sensing systems and collections of heterogeneous sensor networks. Sensor
network or collections of distributed sensor networks are now one of the
tremendous information resources on the Internet. The SensorWeb (the
generic term for such sensor networks and sensor network collections) can
provide real-time and historical information representing situations,
contexts and changes about the real world.

Sensor networks may be regarded as an enormous virtual database that can
provide dynamic real-world information. This has the potential for
application in all areas of life, especially if people are able to query
and search such information resources as they do nowadays on the World
Wide Web. This utility would be further strengthened if the searched
results should be provided in an understandable and potentially machine
re-usable form. For example, aggregated, summarized or symbolized sensor
information is more useful for understanding complex phenomena than raw
sensor information. Such information integration will likely be brought
about by novel methods for data mining and information extraction
specifically tailored to networked sensing systems.

Information integration should combine sensor-specific querying techniques,
e.g. according to geographic location, and web search engines, e.g.,
focusing on content, in order to provide an integrated real world search
engine. In order to realize such real-world searching on networked sensing
systems, technologies from different research fields are required:
a) network technologies to integrate and overlay heterogeneous sensor
networks, b) database technologies to manage and search spatial and
temporal information, c) data mining technologies to extract useful
information from sensor databases and other related resources.

This workshop aims to bring together technical papers about networks,
databases and data mining for spatial and temporal information and
discuss technical issues on integrating sensor networks, databases and
Internet technologies. This workshop will open-up a novel and
interdisciplinary research area for networked sensing systems covering
different research fields such as sensor networks, databases, information
integration and web engineering. It provides the opportunity to discuss
key technologies for searching the real-world information provided by
networked sensing systems.

This workshop will focus on data-driven and data-centric aspects of
networked sensing systems rather than sensor devices and hardware
architecture for networked sensing systems. Original papers on database
and network technologies for spatial and temporal information (e.g.,
sensor data, stream data, time-series data, geographic information and
web information) are welcome.

In order to have constructive discussions on presentations, the organizers
plan to provide more time for Q&A and discussions in comparison with that
of general conferences. The organizers hope that presenters will receive
good feedback on their research and the discussion may inspire new research
directions for all attendees.

Topics of this workshop are the following (but are not limited):
----------------------------------------------------------------
* Sensor databases: managing, archiving and searching sensing data
* Spatial and temporal databases for networked sensing system
* Query processing architecture for spatial and temporal data
* Mining, aggregation and integration of spatial and temporal data
* Stream data processing and mining
* Data representation and query description language for networked sensing system
* Overlay network and P2P technologies for networked sensing system
* Integration of heterogeneous sensor networks
* Software architectures for sensor networks and databases

the 8th International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing (GCC 2009).

************************************************************
Call for Papers

Research on personalization in combination with semantic technologies has become a hot topic in Grid, SOA
and Pervasive Computing. The Grid and Service Computing paradigm tries to enable all kinds of resources
or services being shared or composed across the Internet. Under such paradigm, information and service
supply faces new challenges, i.e. how to deal with large amounts of services, how to handle service
composition in dynamic environments or how to customize processes to individual needs.
Personalization for processes and services in such dynamic environments is one of the most exciting
trends in Grid/Pervasive Computing today that holds the potential to enrich user experiences and make
our daily life more productive, convenient, and enjoyable.
The topics of this workshop focus on all the aspects around personalized processes and services in the
Grid/Pervasive Computing field, ranging from its theoretical foundations, supporting
infrastructures, engineering approaches, to its applications and case studies.
Following the success of PGSC2007 and PGSC2008 in conjunction with GCC2007 and GCC2008, PGSC2009 intends
to continue providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange new ideas, developments,
and experiences on the personalization issues of processes and services in the Gird/Pervasive
Computing field.

************************************************************
