[Dbworld] [Deadline Extended to Dec. 14, 2008] Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness

Call for Papers - ISA 2009
The First International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness
in conjunction with MDM 2009
http://stem.cs.pnu.edu/isa2009
May 18, 2009, Taipei, Taiwan
-------------------------------------------------------------
With the rapid progress of location based services, GIS, and
ubiquitous computing technologies, the space that we are dealing
with is no longer limited to outdoor space but being extended
to indoor space. Indoor spaces has some differences from outdoor
space, therefore to provide integrated spaces and seamless services,
it is required to establish new theories, data models, and systems.
For this reason, research has begun to extend the scope of LBS
and GIS to indoor space for the applications such as indoor navigation
services, indoor LBS and indoor GIS. This workshop is therefore
intended to bring together researchers, developers, and practitioners
carrying out research and development related to the topic of indoor
spatial awareness and to provide a forum for interdisciplinary
discussions in all aspects of indoor spatial awareness.

Topics of Interest: The topics of workshop include (but not limited)
the following:
 - indoor spatial data models,
 - handling moving objects in indoor space,
 - tracking and navigation in indoor space,
 - indexing and query processing of indoor spatial databases,
 - construction of indoor spatial databases,
 - context-awareness in indoor space,
 - indoor space analysis,
 - indoor spatial data mining,

Descriptions
---------------
Semantic Web Technologies provide concepts, architectures, and tools
for interconnected vocabularies and applications. One of the declared
goals of Semantic Web research is to enable intelligent software
agents to reason about information and knowledge which is pervaded on
the Web. To achieve this goal, a challenging and important problem is
to represent commonsense knowledge on the Web and to reason with it.
Indeed, commonsense reasoning is a central part of human behaviour,
and how to endow computers with common sense capabilities is one of
the major long-term goals of Artificial Intelligence research and is
therefore also relevant to the realization of the ambitious Semantic

AIMS, SCOPE AND TOPICS

In our society which has already turned to a service providing society, the technical aspects as well as the
human, social and economic aspects must be considered together. This has already resulted in
considerable research on these aspects that are related to disciplines like Information Systems,
Software Engineering and Service Science, as for example, how empirical research should be conducted,
what are the conditions for "valid" knowledge, and which the scope of theories in these fields are. These
are elements that are of interest from perspectives as diverse as philosophy, engineering and
technology. For example, the material and temporal entities that are dealt with in the field are a matter
of ontology, and the conditions for credibility of statements and research methods are a matter of

[Dbworld] 2nd CFP: miproBIS - Business Intelligent Systems

CALL FOR PAPERS

International Conference on BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS (miproBIS)

(in conjunction with 32st International Convention MIPRO)

May 25 – 29, 2008
Opatija, Adriatic Coast, Croatia

The term Business intelligence (BI) refers to applications and technologies used to gather, provide
access to, and analyze data and information about company operations in order to help them to have a more
comprehensive knowledge of the factors affecting their business. BI systems usually lean on data
warehouses (DWs) to guarantee an easy and quick access to information. The widespread deployment of
these systems is making users more and more demanding in terms of applications, types of analysis and
performances; on the other hand ten years of research in the data warehousing field paved the way for new
applications that goes beyond traditional OLAP analysis and concern real-time, spatiotemporal as well
as distributed data. Furthermore, BI research is now dealing with the integration of BI with Corporate
Performance Management (CPM), balanced scorecards, and Business Process Management (BPM).

Like the previous successful editions, miproBIS 2008 provides an international forum where both
researchers and practitioners can share their findings and practical experiences in the field of BI. In
particular, besides submissions in traditional DW and OLAP topics, we encourage papers concerning
emerging research topics and applications in the DW, OLAP and BI area.

The SCOPE of the conference includes, but is not limited to:

- Data warehouse design and schema evolution
- Multidimensional modelling and queries
- Data warehousing consistency and quality
- Online Analytical Processing (OLAP)
